I was looking at the Willard Mullin thread, and I saw a reference to a "Rosen". I quickly thought of Flip Rosen but I really doubted he was ever a Dodger and, of course, he wasn't.
It was refering to Goody Rosen, who played for the Dodgers in the late 30's and the 1940's. I had never heard of him and I would guess most people haven't either. He seemed to be pretty good, having a great year in '45. I would think that with the large Jewish population in Brooklyn that he would have been a fan favorite but he seems to have faded from everybodys memories. He certainly seems to have been better than Cal Abrams. Does anybody know anything about Goody?

I know goody was from canada and he definitely benefited from all the regulars being away. why beyond 46 we didn't see him any more I don't know. my 87 year old mother passed away recently and believe it or not among some of my old things I had a picture of goody where I got it I can't remember. I was 6 during the 46 season and didn't turn 7 until after the season. my son has it now, unfortunately he doesn't live close, but if I can get it from him or a scan i'll try to put it up. I'm sure some one else can get one up quicker. however once I see it again if it's unique in any way, which I don't believe it is. I'll get it and put it up. battlin bake, the dodger dynamo. p.s not dodger related but era related I have some of my old pep comic buttons p.e.p the sunshine cereal. superman was the favorite, wish they had done the dodgers. I have some old small dodger buttons, but can't remember if I got them out of the cereal.

When you mentioned GOODY ROSEN, Shotgun, I remembered that I had recently seen an item on eBay on him.

He played for US from 1937-1946 and passed away in 1994.

There was a fan who would get Rosen's goat by yelling, "Bring home the bacon for Jakey."

Thanks for all the input. I am really interested in the Dodgers that you never hear about. Sure, the "Boys of Summer" were great but there really are other interesting Dodgers and this is proof.

Alex Tepperman contributed this colorful and well-written bio of Rosen to the SABR BioProject. It focuses on his Jewish and Canadian identities.
