Hey, I'm a newbie!
Who are your top 5 MiLB players?
Just based on your own oppinion, not the oppinions of others.
Here is my completely biased order... (mostly based on hitting potential, not as much fielding)...
Top 5 Position Players:
1: Colby Rasmus
2: Travis Snider
3: Matt LaPorta
4: Chris Marrero
5: Carlos Gonzalez
Top 5 Pitching Players:
1: Clayton Kershaw
2: Brett Anderson
3: Kasey Kiker (Amazingly under-rated)
4: Steven Evarts (Another under-rated player)
5: Max Scherzer
I'm D-backs biased, and I tend to go for the younger players.
Lets see your picks!

I'd say these guys, since nobody said CURRENT Minor Leaguers...
1. Buzz Arlett (as a position player/hitter)
2. Smead Jolley (as a position player/hitter)
3. Ike Boone
4. Oscar "Ox" Eckhardt
5. Perry Werden
Pitchers...
1. Rocket Ron Necciai
2. Frank Shellenback
3. Hank "Rube" Robinson
4. Herman Pillette (underrated)
5. Tie: Bill Bell and Marino Pieretti (Perceived mental instability kept him from succeeding in the Majors)

I'm assuming the author meant current JW.
Anyways... Is "Ox" Eckhardt a relative of John "Ox" Eckhardt? I think he played with the Cubbies in the 40's.

"Anyways... Is "Ox" Eckhardt a relative of John "Ox" Eckhardt? I think he played with the Cubbies in the 40's."
Huh? Oscar George "Ox" Eckhardt is the only player to have had the nickname "Ox" with the first syllable of his name being "Eck" to have ever played in the Majors. Check baseball-reference.com. But I'm sticking with those guys as the best Minor Leaguers of all time, and the ones that IMO could've cut it in the Majors had it not been for various factors.
Arlett and Jolley both played in the Majors and knocked the snot out of the ball. However, both were poor fielders. Ike Boone did so in lesser opportunity. Ox Eckhardt and Perry Werden both only had limited trials in the Majors (Eckhardt did poorly, Werden outright knocked the cover off the ball), but both were also paid tons of money by their respective Minor League baseball teams during their prime.
Rocket Ron Necciai and Bill Bell were rushed to an almost unheardof degree; neither had pitched a single game above Class A ball when they debuted. Necciai returned to the Minors and started getting back into his groove...but then tore his rotator cuff while in the US Army.
Frank Shellenback and Rube Robinson were both spitball pitchers who had experienced MLB success who had the misfortune to be stuck in the high Minors (in Shellenback's case, on the equivalent of a rehab assignment!) when the spitball ban was enacted. Neither pitcher was grandfathered in.
Marino Pieretti was viewed as nuts by MLB scouts (and probably was), though he did have brief MLB success. Herm Pillette stayed in the Minors for much the same reason that Eckhardt and Werden did...it paid better. In just four MLB seasons, he compiled a 34-32 record with a 112 ERA+.

First off Wade Davis isn't even the best pitcher on his own team. David Price is, also Miller over Porcello? No
Porcello is $ $ $
Miller is ¢ ¢ ¢

Hitters
1) Jay Bruce
2) Evan Longoria
3) Colby Rasmus
4) Matt Wieters
5) Andrew McCutchen
Technically Maybin is still a minor leaguer...however if you stictly go by guys with no major league experience this is a solid list.
Pitchers
1) Clayton Kershaw
2) David Price
3) Adam Miller
4) Rick Porcello
5) Chris Volstad
That's awfuly high for both Miller and Volstad. I'd put McGee, Adenhart, Davis, Gio, and a few others ahead of him.

No Rasmus? No Maybin? No McCutchen?
They would make my top 10 as hitters and they would be ahead of Davis and Moustakas if I ranked them overall but Maybin and McCuthen don't have the plate discipline YET to crack the top 5 for me. Rasmus would be my #6.
