Seems that's the guy the Tigers might be pursuing.

I know he is not a fellow that gets many mentions here. However, if he can stay healthy he might account pretty well for himself. His career 1.23 WHIP (Todd Jones WHIP is 1.40) might be a tad high, but he does have 773 K in 641 IP.

So what do you guys think?

Although, I would prefer Troy Percival to get an offer from the Tigers. I guess, Dotel would be a pretty good addition to the back of the pen. So I voted, yes.

If they do sign him, who is the closer? Probably Dotel in Zumaya's old role?

I don't know about you...but my feeling is the only thing Todd Jones can do is close games. Oh yeah, and lead stretching.

Ask yourself, Todd Jones the setup guy? Bottom of the 7th 2outs runners on 2nd and 3rd....Todd Jones....I am shivering already.

I would not mind the setup guy...whoever that is get a chance to sink or swim anytime they come in and get a 1,2,3 or similarly easy 8th. Leave them out there for the 9th no matter what happens.

Point being is the Tigers are paying Todd Jones 7 million....and my thoughts are Todd Jones + midinning = SCARY!

Octavio is a high risk/high reward signing. I ultimately went with "yes," but it's difficult to see him staying injury free. At first I considered voting "no" because of this, but when Dotel IS healthy, he's good. He would hopefully negate Todd Jones in the closer role at least some of the time, forcing Jones into a set-up role (though I agree with tigers527, I don't see Jones coming in mid-inning). Of course, when Jones starts getting pounded, Octavio (who is presumably warming up in the bullpen) can go more than one inning for the save (one thing I like about him is the ability to get multi-inning saves). One of my earliest memories about this guy was his first game against the Cubs at Shea Stadium and striking out Sammy Sosa not once, but twice, and winning. He was just a prospect then, but if he has that left (plus the Dotel-to-Lidge-to-Wagner 1-2-3 bullpen punch the Astros used to pack), well, count me in.

BTW, I'd say his WHIP is kinda high because he's a little wild, though (and I can't remember who first used the term) "effectively wild."
