LARAINE DAY, wife of OUR infamous manager in the 1940's, LEO DUROCHER, passed away on November 10, 2007 at age 87.

How many of you remember this marriage, with its on and off the field antics? She and Leo were literally joined at the hip. The publicity was incredible. When he moved on to the Giants, WPIX-TV gave them their own show "A Day with the Giants". Now, it turns out she never even liked baseball.

1939, Baseball's Tipping Point said something similar about Red Barber, that he was not a baseball fan and didn't go to games after he left broadcasting.

Don't forget that Leo also stole Babe Ruth's watch. :-)
The book "The Lip," written by Gerald Eskenazi, is a must read.

I remember them on an episode of what's my line. I forget which one was the mystery guest, but they were both on. laraine "what was wrong with you!" liked leo as a manager, but she should have known that once he got her he was going to remain on the make. oh, at the time her morals more than his came into question, but both were ridiculed. oh, my mother had a lot to say about it. people who can figure them. eventually they did divorce, would like to know the whole story behind that. battlin bake, the dodger dynamo

That Laraine Day never liked baseball is no surprise: she openly admits she had no clue about baseball or who LD was when she met him in her book 'A Day With The Giants'. She more or less grew into the role of baseball wife to present the 'proper' public image.

RIP, Laraine.
