In 2006 Greg Maddux threw over 200 innings (210.0), and hit 0 batters while throwing 0 wild pitches.

How common is this?

It's only been done twice since 1950. Tom Glavine did it in 2004.

It's also happened a few times before 1950. In fact, in 1905 Chick Fraser did it while throwing over 500 innings.

Looking into this a little further, it's happened 14 times since 1901 but only twice since 1950 (Glavine in 2004 and Maddux in 2006).

It was 334 innings. I have to wonder if his 1905 stats are accurate. He had an *average* of 20 HBPs over his previous 8 seasons, and then in 1905 he hit NO ONE(?!?), despite pitching more innings than normal? And, the same thing with the WPs. I'm skeptical.

Also, my math failed me. I noticed he pitched for 1003 outs and instead of dividing by 3 to compute the innings, I divided by 2 for some reason. I have no idea why I did it. :noidea

Edit to add that baseballalmanac shows Fraser with 13 WP and 15 HBP in 1905.

Koufax is the only guy with 300+ IP's without hitting a batter since 1945.

Not very common.

It shows you the great control that both Maddux and Glavine still possesses.
