Peavy won the award unanimously, all 32 voters listed him first.
Webb finished second (31 2nd place votes, 1 third place vote)
Penny finished third with 14 third place votes.
following those three were
Harang
C. Zambrano
Hamels
Smoltz
Valverde
Francis
in that order.
Peavy and Webb were the only candidates to appear on all ballots.
Congrats to Peavy, well deserved!

Anything less than a unanimous selection would have been a joke.

Zambrano won 18 games and Harang had 218 strikeouts, both beating Smoltz. It's that simple.

The voters got this one right. Then again, how could you not?
Congratulations Peavy...you earned it!
Can't disagree with this.
Peavy was clearly best this year, and Webb was pretty clearly in second place. I think Harang was probably overrated, but that's beside the point.

Anyone who leads the league in wins, strikeouts, and ERA deserves the award. I agree with Webb at number two. He won 18 games with the NL's worst offense. I don't think Penny deserved to be as high as he was. 16 wins and only 135 strikeouts compared to Zambrano's 18 and 177.

According to my formula Peavy deserved CY Award, at all.
CYP
1.Jake Peavy 1.73
2.Brandon Webb 2.71
3.Brad Penny 3.06
4.John Smoltz 3.20
5.Aaron Harang 3.31
6.Cole Hamels 3.32
7.Roy Oswalt 3.44
8.Tim Hudson 3.51
9.Oliver Perez 3.62
10.Carlos Zambrano 3.66
And actually summary voting is quite correct with my math!!
1.Peavy (1)
2.Webb (2)
3.Penny (3)
4.Harang (5)
5.Zambrano (10)
6.Hamels (6)
7.Smoltz (4)
When I analyzed summary voting it's obvious number of WIN has more influence on finally standing then starters ERA. Is it correct - I dont know!?
For ex.
Smoltz - 14 W- 8 L 3.11 ERA 197 K
Harang- 16 - 6 3.73 218
Hamels- 15 - 5 3.39 177
Oswalt- 14 - 7 3.44 154
Zambrano- 18- 13 3.95 177
A Question is: Why is Zambrano better then Hamels or Smoltz??

And what's about an ERA? It's not so clear.
Penny 3.03
Zambrano 3.95
and Harang has 218 SO compared to Zambrano's 177!?

The tantrum will be well deserved, the front-runner is the third best player on his team!

Since 1956, 11 times a pitcher has led either the AL or the NL in wins, strikeouts, and ERA in the same season, all 11 have won the Cy Young, and 10 of them unanimous, the only exception was Roger Clemens for the Blue Jays in 1997.

I don't necessarily agree here. relative era, innings and games above .500 are my big 3.
