I never paid any attention to Charlie Monfort much, and have always been entriely neutral on the Rockies in general. However, some of the stuff that has come out of Monfort's mouth, up to and including his ridiculous comment about the Rockies being the better team after being swept by Boston, has made me start to become somewhat anti-Rockies. So does this guy have a history of making stupid, arrogant statements or is it a recent development?

Never have cared for Charlie or Dick Monfort, especially since Jerry McMorris dropped out of the picture but I waited to darn long for Colorado to get a team to become anti- Rockies. You ought to have seen Charlie on the local FOX news laying claim to being the mastermind behind the Rockies success this year, after they won the NLCS.

Charlie's an idiot. I've yet to see any evidence to the contrary.

Clint Hurdle, on the other hand, is a damn good manager and deserves a lot of credit for bringing that team so far.

Agreed... Sucks he wasn't even a blip on the radar when the voting came back a few days ago.

Thing about Hurdle though is he never has to worry about his job. This was suppose to be a bubble year for Hurdle and O'Dowd and a game or 2 into the 2007 season they both were signed to an 2 year extension.

Montfort singlehandedly killed a deal with the Sox last offseason that would have seen his team get out from under Helton's contract and brought back a couple productive young players in return. Just because he wanted to play the media and try to chivvy Theo into offering more (which never works, not with Theo Epstein)

It turned out for the good from a Rockies' fan's perspective but just because he lucked into a situation where the best move was the one he didn't make doesn't mean he wasn't an idiot for blowing the deal up the way he did.

The Helton trade was far from the best move that the Rockies lucked into. Getting Hirsh, Buchholz and Taveras for Jennings and Rodrigo Lopez(from Orioles) having a good year was better then just an assumption on a couple of Red Sox players and how they would have done in 2007 or in the future.

BTW/ Charlie and Dick Monfort are the Rockies owners and O'Dowd is the GM, so I don't see how Monfort(Charlie or Dick) singlehandedly killed the Helton deal.

If you believe the rumors it was Montfort (Charlie I think) being Hank Steinbrenner that cooled the deal off, not anything O'Dowd did. Basically they offended Boston and that closed the door.

The rumor was that Manny Delcarmen was to be one of the players, along with all of Helton's salary being paid by Boston, and Julian Tavarez and Mike Lowell as salary going the other way for a couple years to make up for Helton's huge deal. Manny D could possibly have closed in the NL when Fuentes struggled, and the current Rockies plus Lowell and Delcarmen would probably have taken the NL West and best record from the D'Backs. But Montfort wanted Lester and tried to draw the line there, using the media to chivvy Theo for more, and the deal died.

Corpas stepped in and done a great job as the Rockies closer, so good that Fuentes became the 8th inning set up guy after coming off the DL and Atkins had his 2nd straight season of over 100rbis. Best part of the Helton deal falling through was he stayed here in Denver. Without that miracle 14 outta 15 game streak I don't think the Rockies would have been in contention for the NL West title if they had Mike Schmidt playing 3rd.

Like I said, though, the fact that it turned out that the best move was the one he didn't make didn't mean Montfort didn't screw up and get lucky.

You mean the assumed best move that I disagree with?
