Anyone that has watched Pedroia this year knows how good of a player he has been. I think he has to be the big favorite for Rookie Of The Year, and if anyone else wins that he's getting jobbed. Apparently it's now coming out that he played the final month and a half of the season with a broken bone in his left hand. http://http://boston.redsox.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20071110&content_id=2297892&vkey=news_bos&fext=.jsp&c_id=bos
Pedroia hit .317 in the regular season, and play GG calibur 2nd base. That .317 BA was the highest ever by a rookie 2nd baseman. Plus, he drove in 10 Runs in his 14 playoff games. Not bad for a rookie.

He deserves the utmost respect and admiration for playing so well despite the pain.
If it had been known during the playoffs that he was injured would he have been named the MVP of the World Series instead of Mike Lowell? He had arguably as big of an impact on the series and put up some decent numbers to back up the claim to the award...

How did he break his hand?
He said he wasn't sure how or when it happened, but it's the Hamite (sp?) bone in his left hand. It serves no purpose really, so they just take it out. Last season when Wily Mo missed a couple months it was because of that. Ortiz had it removed earlier in his career. That's the best part, is that they just remove the bone, so (knock on wood) we should have to worry about his hand for next year.

Thank God we stuck with him after a .182 April. Dusty is my favorite player for a reason. Nobody in the AL deserved the award more than he does.

Carlton Fisk - 1972
Fred Lynn - 1975
Nomar Garciaparra - 1997
Dustin Pedroia - 2007
Being a former second-baseman, I really watch those who play that position more than any other positon, and given his hard-nosed, dirt dog style of play, he's become my favorite position player.

Where were you when you heard that Harry Agganis had died?

Where were you when you heard that Harry Agganis had died?
I don't remember where I was, but I sure remember the incident. For all you folks who weren't blessed to know about Harry Agganis, imagine a Tony Conigliaro situation where your blossoming young star doesn't get hit in the eye with a ball, but rather keels over and dies from a blocked artery. That was in the 1955 season when he was only 26 years old.
