Obviously, African-American players made a huge impact after Jackie Robinson broke the floodgates. In the decade of the 1960s only one of the top ten home run leaders was NOT African American. Who was it? That is the top ten for the entire decade.

Off the top of my head, I would guess Mickey Mantle. But that may not be right.

Frank Robinson: 286
Ernie Banks: 269

According to Hank Arron's biography the answer is Ron Santo. Perhaps that calculation is scewed by the years counted in a decade. The true decade of the 1960s is the years 1961 to 1970...It really wasn't my intent to present a trick question I just went by what he and his co-writer put in the book. I don,t know if they based that on 1960-1969 or 1961-1970. However, according to his most recent biography written a few years ago Santo is his answer. Sorry for any cofusion.

No No I know what the problem is now. I messed up the original question. I bet it is for homerun leaders in the NATIONAL LEAGUE...1961 to 1970...Which would be Santo

Actually, I thought your point was important-the immediate impact of integration on league quality.
