Wow, last post was on 10/19 for Marlins forums? well i havent been around either so I can't really blame others...But what are you expectations for the Marlins upcoming offseason? Will Miguel get traded? Will Paul Lo Duca catch for us?I personally think the Marlins might surprise people and pick up Barry Bonds but I understand that's very unlikely...

or what about Aaron Rowand? a centerfielder that would fit in perfectly? again with this year's free agent pool, hes might be out of the Fish's range, money wise

I think they need to go after a CF. Someone that can roam the spacious CF of Dolphins Stadium. But, the big question is, who wants to go to the Marlins?

I like Cody Ross in CF. He's very gutsy out there. He doesn't have the best CF tools, but I love having his bat in the line up. In 173 ABs he had a BA of .335 with 12 homers in 19 doubles.

Clearly the reported trade of Willis and Cabrera to the Tigers for six players deserves discussion.

Marlins receive: Outfielder Cameron Maybin, lefty Andrew Miller and catcher Mike Rabelo from their 40-man roster, and three minor league pitchers in Burke Badenhop, Dallas Trahern and Eulogio De La Cruz.
The deal remains contingent on some medical checks.

Yeah, with a payroll UNDER 9 MILLION DOLLARS! :crazy  :disbelief:
The big question is who wants to go to the Marlins? The answer is nobody, because nobody in the Marlins organization wants to shell out money. Period. :twocents:

MLB seriously needs to step in here.
The Marlins get about $60M from Revenue Sharing and Ticket sales I read today. Where is that money? The Revenue sharing money is supposed to get recycled into the team...not into Loria's pocket!!
MLB needs to establish a Minimum budget per team ...say depending on the Market that team is in. There is no excuse for a Major League team to have a payroll of under $10M!!! No excuse! You cannot field a competitive team for that type of money!
I like the Marlins and they are great evaluators of talent...but them gutting teams like this should not be allowed. Hell, give this team to Mark Cuban and see what he does with it.

Hopefully this can help go for a new stadium.
If you put it in NW Broward County, more people will come.

Or move the team to a city that actually wants it a team.

I agree in priniciple, but the problem where MLB is concerned, Florida is one of those teams which exists only to make up the numbers on the Braves and Mets schedules - and I mean no disrespect with that comment. I am frustrated by the situation in Miami because I think it's a market that should have a team, and that the way it is being run is appalling. The stadium situation doesn't help, but it's tough to get money out of voters if they think you are already taking in plenty and putting it in your pockets. At the very least, payroll was already down a lot, and they should have kept Cabrera at least. Willis might be declining. But those two were the franchise. Now it's more promise notes for tomorrow.
BTW - the player's union will never allow a minimum payroll in baseball, even though it will be beneficial to their players. They see it as step one to a salary cap.

You'll never see evidence so long as the books remain hidden from view, and even then it's probably possible to distort the picture in numerous ways to make it look like they are spending it on the team when they are not.

A minimum salary for the product on the field is just a pipe dream of mines.
It would put the Marlins and Pirates back on track to winning ways. But that's another story for another thread.
Maybe owners like Loria should be kicked out. Fresh blood like Cuban brought in. Owners like Loria only hurt the game, if you ask me.

I agree with all that you say, 1000%
We know owners are trying to make a big buck, and that is fine, up to a point. Many seem OK waiting until they sell, and make multi-million dollar profits. It's the ones who either lack enough of a financially solid footing and/or want to turn a measly profit every year, and throw their team to the wolves in the meantime that are the real problem.
