Hi everyone, I thought it would be time for a Riverwalk Stadium photo thread.
If you have any pictures of this stadium, feel free to contribute.

As disappointed as I was to see the O-Rays go, it looks like the Biscuits are getting more folks into their bar than they every got into Whatever They're Calling It Today Stadium at Disney's Wide World of Sports.
It looks like Montgomery's got a nicer park that Disney and Orlando (the semi-classic Tinker Field is currently rotting beside the Citrus Bowl when it's not hosting hard rock concerts) AND baseball fans.
Good for you, Biscuits!

Partly you are right. During the season there are a lot of fans in Riverwalk Stadium. But as soon as the college football season starts again, it is a lot more empty. During the SL championship series, the stadium was only filled half I guess. Not much for a championship game.

I think the problem with Orlando was when the team was at Tinker Field they never put any sort of effort into upgrading it to modern Minor League specs.
And then they went to Disney, which was a dumb move on their part. Disney's about 20 miles off the beaten track from Orlando. And it is a foolish notion that tourists are going to go to Disney to see minor league baseball as opposed to the theme park itself.
Had the Orlando ownership instead put its effort into upgrading Tinker Field to today's Double A standards, or alternatively building a new minor league ballpark in Orlando proper (like the absolutely beautiful one built 130 miles north in Jacksonville), Orlando would still have a minor league team today. Instead, they threw away all their chances by moving to Disney.
That all aside, the Montgomery ballpark is very nice.

According to Wikipedia, they built the park with part of an old train station?
That's interesting. I'm assuming the structure that runs from right field to home plate was the train station? What do they have in that building other than the "Club Car Bar" that you posted pictures of?

Yes that is the building. See attached picture. This is a kind of corner stone in that building.
There are some luxury suites as well.

And this is the ballpark of what team?
Not all of us are up on the minor leagues, so a little more information (league, MLB affiliation, geographic location) would be appreciated.
Thanks! :)

(And from what I read after Googling this park after seeing this thread, they actually have biscuit stands inside the park)

It's the Montgomery Biscuits of the Southern League. The Double-A affiliate of Tampa Bay.

Rail road right behind left field. The mayor of Montgomery promised to pay $ 1000 (I think it was) to whom would hit a moving train with a homerun. He has done that twice now.

So, Yankeebiscuit fan... you're a fan of the Biscuits but you've never been there, a Yankees fan, and you're located in the Netherlands? Are you from Montgomery originally? If not, how does one become a big Biscuits fan without living there?

Good question. I am Dutch citizen, but I am not from Montgomery. I have seen the Yankees play once, two years ago in Anaheim; a dream came true. I am a Yankee fan since 1981 (so I am not a bandwagonneer). A class mate of mine, lived in the US and told me about the Yankees and their rich history. I read a lot about them and so I became a Yankee fan. But don't be affraid; I rooted for the Mets in 1986...:D
But how did I become a Biscuit fan? In 2005 I discovered Minor League Baseball. I knew it excisted but I had never checked out the website of MiLB. I started to check out the teams and I discovered the Biscuits. I fell in love with their uniform and their cap (yellow happens to be my favorite colour). I also fell in love with their stadium. It also helped that Biscuits radio announcer, Jim Tocco's mother is a frequent visitor of this board. Through her, I got in contact with Jim Tocco. He is a very reliable source and he knows a lot about the game. If I have any questions, that I can't find the answer to, I turn to him.
I still have to pick up two free tickets for a game that I have won. :) I don't know when, but one day I will visit a game there.
When possible, I listen to a Biscuits game on Friday or Saturday, via internet radio.

Technically, you are correct. Although they resemble humans, the Dutch are not actually human. :dance
Chris.
Perhaps you can fill us in on the origin of the species?
Nice pics, by the way.

I've got news for you Troy. Somehow you have SOME relationship with the Dutch... So if we are no humans, at least a part of you isn't either.

I was thinking about going to this ballpark in May, immediately before or after the Rickwood Classic in Birmingham. The Biscuits will be away, but that was supposed to be the week of the NCAA Division II Baseball Championship, which has been held in Montgomery for some years... BUT I saw a notice that the city of Montgomery has decided not to host these games any more!
