I've always wondered why the New York City Housing Authority chose to build a housing project (the Colonial Park Houses, renamed Rangel Houses in 1976) right next door to the Polo Grounds. I suppose it's because the Housing Authority needed a site, and this one was available, but it still seems strange.
But having read mandrake's comment, I'm curious to if there's any truth to that... how building a housing project next door might have indeed "forced" the Giants to move out of town, and if it did, why it took six years before he left (Colonial Park was opened in 1951).
