Does anyone know of how Wilson catcher mitts hold up? I am looking into this really expensive Wilson: Wilson A2K Pudge 32 1/2" Catcher's Mitt. I know in order to get a good glove now, you have to be willing to pay for it. I bought an Akedema Catcher's mitt last year, and I love the glove, but after a year of bullpens and games, the leather broke down and is really soft.

Any tips on keeping a glove from becoming soft? What are the best catcher's mitts to get, holding up wise?
Thanks in advance!

I use that exact glove. It is the best catchers gloves I have ever used. Through the eight years I have been using Wilsons, I am on my third glove, and it will last me at least another year. One main thing is to make sure you keep a ball in it when you arent using it.

Durability-wise: Probably just about any "high-end" glove you buy will hold up - IF YOU TAKE CARE OF IT PROPERLY; that means after each game and practice, you take the glove out of your bag and clean the dirt out of it (dirt will ruin the leather faster than anything else), you keep it properly conditioned, you keep a ball in the pocket to hold its shape, and you keep it out of extreme temperatures (when possible). Unfortunately, not many people (outside of professional players) are willing to devote this much time to the care of their gloves.
But more importantly (than durability), is the FIT of the glove. All the gloves I own (6) are Rawlings (as they feel best on my hand) - except the catcher's mitt; for some reason, Rawlings catcher's mitts do not fit/feel right on my hand and, therefore, I will not buy them.
So before puchasing a "durable" catcher's mitt, first make sure it's one that fits, and then make sure you know how to take care of it properly. :baseball:

I agree with Utility... Wilson makes the best catcher's mitts on the market. make sure you wipe it clean, put some Mink oil (with lanolin), place a ball in the middle .. Will last a long time...
