Hi, I just want to know what speed you should hit when you're a freshman to high school. Thank you .

Kids physically develop at different rates. It's not so much your velocity for freshman year as your velocity for your physical development heading into freshman year. You might have nice velocity for a freshman but be peaking. Or you might have below average velocity for a freshman but have a lot of physical upside.

.... the key at your age is technique and development.

O..And by the way.. When I throw the 4 seam fastball, I'm used to keep my fingers closed or should I spread them out? Thanks

Keeping the fingers close together will probably give you more movement and even a cutting action. Slightly more spread may give you more control and less movement.

The previous posts are right. Work hard on your mechanics and mental game right now. The velocity will take care of itself.

However, just to give you some reference our top freshman pitchers this year were in the 76-84 range. This range was our top 5 freshman pitchers. The others usually were in the 70-72 range with a few a little lower and a few a little higher.

We had similar numbers during the spring with two freshman touching 85-86 mph. One is consistent and could hit his spots, the other is wild and inconsistent. I think only one out of the class of new freshman has any decent velocity, probably throwing in the high 70's

Another question.
During the pick-off to 1st, is it a MUST for me to step behind the rubber than deliver the ball. I'm right handed.
