If the Rocket does go back to the Yanks, the Bosox should sign Trot just to hit against him. And, that's it.

I love him, but unless we need him for some reason, no. Like Westlake said, maybe if he's coaching.

Trot's Adjusted OPS+ has dropped each of the last four seasons, and he will be 34 next April 11.

YEAR AGE TEAM *OPS+
2003 29 BOST. 149
2004 30 BOST. 123
2005 31 BOST. 112
2006 32 BOST. 98
2007 33 CLEV. 82

His 2007 Adjusted OPS+ is still better than those of Gabe Kapler any of his final three seasons and better than Bobby Kielty did either with the Red Sox or overall this season.

However, Boston has lefthanded hitters J.D. Drew and Jacoby Elsbury and swithch-hitter Coco Crisp likely returning in 2008, so there isn't a great need for a lefthanded bat to serve as a backup outfielder.

Nah, there is no room for Trot anymore. If they do not trade Coco this offseason, he would seem to be a great fit as the 4th outfielder.

I don't think there is any question that Crisp will be traded this offseason. Ellsbury will definetely be starting in CF come next year.

That's not true. Ellsbury could be traded to bring in another big name player. So, not exactly true that Crisp will be gone without question.

It's technically a possibility, but I highly doubt it. Would you rather have a future 24yo superstar who hit .452 in AA and then came up to the pros and has already hit .353 or a .270 hitting 28yo?
