I am looking for the single best(only one not a collection) pitching video/book. I know there are many out there, but if you were to recommend just one for purchase what would it be?
Thank you,
Coach W

I know I had asked for some vids/books on everything before, but I want to buy only one book or video on hitting and pitching. I want something with drills to help. I bought the hitting video by Cohen the UK head coach and like it, but I'm still looking for something more. I need a pitching video. Any suggestions on a single pitching and hitting video? I appreciate your help!!

I like Don Slaught's IP300-AS DVD product (IP300-AS = RVP Instruction Player All-Star Baseball).

There isn't one magic pill. You have to be open minded and evaluate the information you can take in. When questions like yours get asked, what happens is the disciples of each guru will step forward heralding their man. They're all right and they're all wrong. You have to find your own comfort zone.

I'd go with The Science and Art of Baseball Pitching
The coach's complete handbook of scientific pitching by Dick Mills and Dr. Brent Rushall
John Bagonzi, "The Art of Pithching", I think. A good basic manual, with drills, on how to pitch. Mills is a bit of a "rebel" for my taste. But as TG says, check him out and see what you think.

TG Coach, I understand what you mean about trying many different things and narrowing it down. I was just looking for a basic starting point. Some people have recommended 4 cd collections and all I was trying to do was get the best thing out there in either one book or one cd. I have some of these already, but was trying to expand.

How about "Coaching Pitchers" by Joe McFarlane?

Dick Mills wishes he was a rebel.
I'd recommend Mike Marshall (http://www.drmikemarshall.com), his website has both the book and the pitching instruction on it for free.

Jake: I know that you have been impressed by Marshall, but I have got to say here, the clips I have seen of the few Marshall pitchers and I don't see it! I don't see anyone in high level ball throwing his way.

Watch Hideki Okajima tonight. The extreme arm slot.
Also watch Brian Fuentes of the Rockies. How early he gets his arm up.

Tom,
What I have been impressed with is his willingness to go and learn about the process (Ph.D. in Kenesiology) and to take baseball head on. We all know that improper pitching will lead to arm injuries I just don't understand why people are so closed minded about throwing a ball that is anatomically safe. And before anyone starts ... comparing how we teach our 9-10 y/o's has nothing to do with the 96 MPH fastball many feel is required at the MLB level. Should we be comfortable with the thousands of parents and coaches across the country who placate and stroke their own their self centered interests by accepting the ole, "I know he's hurt, but that's the way the pros do it."
Personally I do not feel Doc has something that can be mainstreamed - yet. And I do believe there are others trying to develop something more acceptable that can produce higher speeds. What's frustrating is many of his naysayers have not met the man, they have not talked to the man, have not gone to his facility nor have they taken the time to read his research - very typical baseball. I have yet to meet anyone that has disputed his research. Much of what he says makes sense.
And if anyone thinks any youth organization out there really gives a rat's behind about arm injuries, you are wrong. Little League's veilled attempt with pitch counts is more about liability than it is safety. Their training programs are a joke and are finacially driven. Other programs to include one near and dear to my heart - Legion Ball is even worse.
Do I think Marshall has something? who knows, but if you are willing to look at clips of adult pitchers and make a judgement then I would invite you to also view the arthoscopic clips of a damaged 12 year old shoulder and the life-changing affects a blown shoulder or elbow can have.
I am not selling anything I am advocating that we should all keep an open mind. What we teach - for the most part- can injure our kids.

This is clearly a Rockies trait. I spoke with their bullpen coach last winter and he said one thing he and the Rockies are very big on are breaking the hands early and getting the throwing arm up and ready to go.
Check out LaTroy Hawkins. He breaks his hands very early.

Although it is not a hitting or pitching book so to speak, if I could recommend one baseball instruction book it would be The Baseball Playbook by Ron Polk.

This is great advice. I like what I see in a lot of the Rockies (although I HATE the arm action of Manny Corpas). For example, I have seen near perfection in Ubaldo Jimenez.
I have hope that the Rockies coaches may actually know what they are talking about.
