How'd you know it was a whifle ball bat? lol, I have a wood bat that look exactly the same! lol, I was using it to get the muscle memory down with something light, then I'll work my way to a 40 oz bat =-)

You're still over-rotating......that's why you are so off balance on the follow through. You ever see a pro falling over like that after a HR swing?
Also, your arms seem to be too far away from your body...try and keep a tighter circle with your hands to your body. That way your swing will be
more "connected" and not so "armsy". Check that recent Pete Rose analysis for proper hand path.

There is a difference between stumbling, almost falling over and just slightly leaning over.
Bonds never looks off balance on a good swing and never over-swings...unlike your boy.

I'm going to guess it has alot to do with the lack of weight in the wiffle ball bat. When your body is used to counter-weighting the effects of a normal bat, switching to something like a wiffle ball bat will be sure to throw you off.

This may give you some idea of how decent your swing really is....however, notice the difference in hand position (in the top two; your's are just slightly behind - dragging; Hint: keep them closer to your body as you attack the ball)...
(In the bottom one(s), Konerko hasn't made contact yet). :) What do you think?

I think I'm pretty close, but I need to get my hands closer. I made some adjustments that I'm going to try to work it out for a while, then put it in a video. I Think I got it better. I thought of some things that might help me by watching the indians red sox games. I especially learned stuff from Manny, and Victor Martinez.

I hope you aren't doing much, if any, of your practice with the wiffle bat. Doing so won't translate to a metal or wood bat and may be causing you to develop poor habits. If you need to hit a wiffle ball fine, but use a wood bat in practice.

Ok.......... I realized that I was stupid for doing it, so I put the whiffle ball bat away for a while...
I read somehwere once that when you are working on your swing, you need to use a light bat, because it is better for muscle memory. Is that true (that was directed to anyone, not just john)?

A "lighter" bat maybe. A whiffle ball bat absolutely not.

Agreed with Jake. A bit lighter is fine for bat speed, but as I mentioned in another post if you're using a bat app. 15% heavier or lighter than your game weight your mechanics will be different.

Some thoughts...
1. I see references to your disconnecting. This is because the tee is too far out in front of you. The ball needs to be at your front heel, not way out in front of your front toe. This will give you a more realistic swing.
2. Your hip rotation looks good.
3. It's hard to say much else without slow motion.

I agree with the others. Stop trying to emulate Albert Pujols. You have a completely different body type than him. What works for him, may not work for you. You hold your hands too high and take too long to drop them into the swing plane. Take some movement out of your preswing motions. Also, Chris is right.....you have the tee way to far out in front of you...move it in so you hit the ball off your front foot when you stride. Also, in your stance, have your weight more 50/50. You seem to already be mostly on your back leg and you have your front foot already "reaching" out. Get into a stance like you are guarding someone in basketball.

Why does he need to have his weight 50/50?
Of course he doesn't HAVE to....it's just what everyone seems to teach as a starting point. Again, he is just copying Pujols instead of doing what is right for him. The bigger issue is to stay balanced from stance to stride to swing to follow through. But if he starts with more weight towards the back, that means there is more weight to carry forward in the stride. As long as his weight goes AGAINST the back leg and not OVER it, that should be fine.
Every swing I see from this kid looks different than the last. He needs to work on things one step at a time in smaller increments. He is just treading water this way, IMO.

How do you know it's not what's right for him? I truly don't believe he is "copying Pujols;" when he hits off of a tee, he looks more like him because he can afford the "extra" concentration on his mechanics, but when he swings at a live pitch he looks nothing like him.
The bigger issue is to stay balanced from stance to stride to swing to follow through. But if he starts with more weight towards the back, that means there is more weight to carry forward in the stride. As long as his weight goes AGAINST the back leg and not OVER it, that should be fine.
So Big Papi's and Teixeira's bodies move more than Yaz's or Mantle's?

Your weight shift/transfer is determined by the distance/length of your stride - not where your weight "starts."

So what I am getting at here is that since somehow some of you think part of my swing looks like pujold (when I had absolutely no idea of this), you think I should change this because it's not my natural stance.... when I came up with it naturally on my own?
