Your mission, if you choose to accept it, is to look through these five boxscores and name the player and the record that he set in each of these games. A different record was set in each game. They are somewhat interesting records (IMHO), and somewhat obscure. A typical (and fictional) correct answer would be "Pete Rose - most triples in a game (4) while scoring 0 runs".

NOTE: These may or may not be all-time MLB records because I am ONLY considering games from 1957-2007. Also, other players may have tied some or all of these records.

In the first game, there were 7 intentional walks, two to Brewers batters and five to Twins batters. This seems to be the record for both teams, with the five to the Twins tying the record for one team.

Baseball Almanac doesn't list this game in its record book for most intentional walks... I wonder if their list only includes nine-inning games.

That is a record, but, as I stated, the answers are all individual records.

RuthMayBond,

You're right about #3 and #4. For #5, I was looking for "most HRs (3) by a player who didn't start the game", but your answer is probably correct too. It seems unlikely that anyone ever hit more than 2 HRs in extra innings.

Yeah, I guess that's a record, but not the one I was looking for. The answers are all a little less complicated than that. BTW, the answer involves a different player.

1. Most innings pitched in relief where all of the innings were extra innings?

No. I'm not sure who holds that record, but I know that the record is at least 8 innings. Rick Mahler pitched 8 innings in this game...

The correct answer does not involve a pitcher.

1. The only other things I see is that Carew had 5 hits, but 0 runs. Surely, that's happened before. And Ferraro had 7 ABs after entering as a pinch hitter. Maybe that's it?

Darn it, I knew I shouldn't have included any marathon 22-inning games...there's too many records to be found in them! Ferraro's 7 ABs as a PH is a record, but the record I had in mind involved Carew. You practically have it right, so I'm just going to give it to you. Carew set a record for being on base the most times (8) without scoring a run.
