Who would you guys rather square up against in the ALCS this season, the Indians or the Yankees?
Its a real tricky question when you take into account that facing the yankees would mean that they have to win haha. I know i think i'd rather face them in the ALCS, but the good that would come from facing them instead of the indians would not be worth the pain it would cause me to see them win a postseason series lol.
But anyway, who do you think the sox would have a better chance of beating?

I do not like the idea of facing Carmona or Sabathia against our lineup...but the Yankees lineup is just devastating.

Agreed, but if given the choice I'd rather face Cleveland.

I'd rather face the Indians. I couldn't live with myself if we lost to the Yanks. To put it bluntly, I hate them. I hate the idea that they're still alive in the postseason.

Part of me would love to see a Red Sox-Yankees A.L.C.S. The 2003 and 2004 were both epic. However, part of me would love to see the Yankees lose in the first round.
For what it's worth, the Red Sox were 5-2 against the Indians this regular season and the 8-10 against the Yankees. I wrote, "For what it's worth," because the Yankees were 6-0 against the Indians during the regular season before dropping the first two games of the best-of-five series.
Sabithia has a lifetime record of 2- 4 against the Red Sox with an ERA of 3.91. He was 0-1 this season with a 1.29 ERA. He gave up 1 Run over 7 Innings, but Dice-K bettered him by pitching 7 Innings of scoreless ball before giving way to Okajima and then Papelbon at Jacobs Field July 24.
Carmona is 1-2 with a 5.00 ERA lifetime. He won his only start against the Red Sox this season, besting Beckett by pitching 8 Innings of shutout ball before leaving for Borowski as the Indians defeated the Red Sox 1-0 at Jacobs Field the day after Dice-K and Sabathia clashed.

Yankees. Makes it more thrilling. But I'll be happy with either just as long as the series goes 5 and both teams use up a lot of their arms.

Indians. I'm tired of the Yankees, I'm tired of the hype, the media circus, the animosity. The Indians are a good, young team, and besides, if they won the Series, it'd be the first one in almost 60 years for that city, so I wouldn't feel so much like jumping off the mountain if the Sox (by some quirk of fate) were to lose to them, and they went on to win it all.

Right on all fronts. The sox-Yanks thing is so played out. I am tired of it.
The indians are more fun to watch, a more fascinating story. Also, I live in ohio and all my friends, including my girlfriend and her family are tribe fans. If the sox had to lose, I could take comfort rooting for the tribe to help all these lifelong ohioans pain.

I'm just tired! I don't want to go through that again no matter how exciting it might be. :)

agreed.

if you mean too good to want to face them, yeah, but the red sox pitching is pretty well better in my opinion. daisuke v. carmona is the only reasonably-likely matchup where i'd favor the indians.
the ideal, to me, is have this alds go 5 games and have the indians take it. an indians rotation of fausto/westbrook/byrd/sabathia/fausto/westbrook/byrd over 7 games just does not intimidate me one bit.
but really, i want to face the indians under any circumstances. i think the sox'd beat the yanks more often than they would the indians, but i think the sox would be favorites in either case. and it occured to me after 2004, sox yanks ALCSs are legitmate stress lol. i do not enjoy watching them, its just too nerve-racking. also i think its a nice little statement if the sox go deep into october with the yanks getting knocked out in the first round; i think it could go a long way towards finally curing red sox nation's inferiority complex.
so from a PURELY pro red sox stance, i'd take the yankees. but i'm not just pro red sox, i'm pro red sox and anti-yankees. so taking that into account i am absolutely rooting for the indians.
and again, i'd favor the red sox against either team.

i would rather face the Yankees. The Indians have two great starters and and a very good bullpen. The Yankees only have one good starter IMO in Pettite. I dont think Wang is that good and the rest of the starters are sub par (they will be better when they let the youngsters pitch). The Yankees pen is weak except for Joba and Mo. Teams are starting to figure out Joba and we do well against Mo. either way, we match up well against any team, so bring on whomever

As far as the regular-season AL rankings...
Runs
Sox - 3rd
NY - 1st
Cleveland - 6th
Runs Allowed
Sox - 1st
NY -7th
Cleaveland - 3rd
BA
Sox - 5th
NY - 1st
Cleveland - 7th
ERA
Sox - 1st
NY - 8th
Cleveland - 3rd
As far as statisically speaking the Yankees pitching is of course their weak link and Cleveland has solid pitching. The Yankees have the better offense and they can erupt at anytime. Cleveland's offense is more average.
As far as beating the Yankees, just b/c of the rivalry, to get to the World Series.....sure why not. The media of course would go nuclear.
As far as the series between the Indians and the Yankees it would be nice to see them play a couple of 14-inning games and use those pitchers up plus a lot of energy.
As far as tonight's score, it will be Cleveland if they can hang on.
As far as everything I said up to now, it really doesn't matter as long as we advance to the World Series no matter who gets in our way and once you get there, you might as well win it all! :cap:

I'd rather face the Indians. I don't like the idea of facing Carmona and Sabathia, but I think Beckett and Schilling can hold their own in pitchers duels. Plus, that would mean the Yankees lost, and if that happens Steinbrenner's head may very well explode. lol.

The point is moot now, but I'm glad the Yankees are out of it. If Cleveland bests us in the ALCS, I'm not going to lose too much sleep over it. If NY were to beat us . . . well, I'm not sure if I could go through that again. You all make good points about the 1-2 tandem of CC and Carmona, but this is a seven game series, slightly different animal. I actually like our chances.

You got your wish, guys.
Good luck to both teams, good umpiring all around, and good play on both sides. Hell, I'd even hope for good tv announcing, but I catch the local Tribe radio broadcasts and am always happy with them.

Yep. It would be bad enough to lose the ALCS, but to see the Yankees beat us and win the pennant. Ugh. I can live with the Indians winning, if it comes to that, so it will be a lot more relaxing to watch.

My sentiments exactly!
This should be a good and challenging series for both teams, I'm looking forward to it. Good luck to both teams.
Go Sox! :gt

It will be nice to see Trot back in Fenway again. I think we can take them. Obviously Carmona and Sabathia are beasts, but Beckett and Schilling have both been untouchable in the post-season, so I like our chances. Plus with Papi hitting everything, and Manny getting red hot at the right time, it should be a great series.
With all that said, I hope Trot and the rest of the Indians go 0 for. lol.

I would have been a lot happier facing either team if they had gone to 5 games and depleted their pitching. I'm not happy that CC and Carmona are lined up for the first two games on normal rest...probably will make for the most interesting possible ALCS, but I just wanted the Bosox to have the best shot at steamrolling the opposition in a short series.
