I saw them enough and I still don't know how they did it. They got outscored by 20 runs, their lineup isn't very good, and other than Webb their pitching isn't anything special.

Good bullpen, timely hitting, and the Eric Byrnes factor.

You can easily get outscored by twenty runs when you're blown out quite a few times. Did the Snakes have lots of losses like that?

When Webb doesn't start and they use their bad bullpen arms it is very likely.

To out perform your pythagorean by 11 games is highly unusual. Has to be a lot of luck involved in that.

Bullpen, I'm not sure how many losses they had when leading after 7 but I bet very few.
They were 22-12 (10-game diff...) when Webb started, 20-13 for Davis, 16-17 for Livan, 14-15 for Owings, 6-4 for Unit. So they supported Webb accordingly, boosted Davis, especially since he had such short games, and for Livan and Owings who were about average they did that, and didn't hand anyone a ton of losses.
32-20 in one-run games. That usually is .500, so there's the 11-game difference. 20-26 in blowouts, surprisingly. 239 runs to 301 in those, so compared to 11 one-run "net" wins (or 32, or 52) they had -62 runs from blowouts (and probably enough in the 6 net losses to make 31 runs). Shut out 7 times, pretty normal (8 is average per team, Twins had 14!).
.500 in division, 40-40!
Or a different way of looking at it, it's just going 15-12 (not so daunting or impressive) six times with no slip-ups. 90-72 split into sixths.
One sixth:
15 wins
12 losses
5.33 one-run wins (+5.33)
3.33 one-run losses (-3.33)
Net (+2)
3.33 blowout wins (+12*3.33=+40)
4.33 blowout losses (-11.57*4.33=50)
Net (-10)
Over a 15-12 stretch it can happen where the team gets blown out by ten one game, but otherwise makes up for it in standard wins and one-run efforts so it pairs down to about 3.33 runs.

You do realize that 14 players on the D-Backs make over $1 million. Six of those make over $4.5 million.

Looking at the payroll list of teams the Rockies, Padres, Indian, Diamondbacks
are near the bottom of the list. The Yank$$s are at $195,229.045.

You said the D-Backs have shown that you don't have to pay millions for players to win. I showed that the D-Backs indeed pay millions for their players. The Yankee comparison is not relevant since the Yankees always field a veteran team while the D-Back have many young players.

They scored more runs than their opponents in that many games...:laugh Shame the Dodgers couldn't do likewise, but they :choke: when the pressure was on.
