With their September collapse complete, what should the Mets do with their aging pending free agents (Glavine, LaDuca, Alou, Green, Castillo)? What about their other old guys (Delgado, Wagner, Hernandez, Martinez)?Should they trade them while they have value and rebuild knowing their core (Wright, Reyes, Maine, Perez, Beltran) should still be in their prime after a couple of leaner rebuiling years? With the exception of some pitchers, the only big free agents out there seem to be either centerfielders or third basemen, of no help to the Mets.

Glavine has had fine games, and he's also had so-so games, such as one he'd had trying to get to #300. Since he's been playing exclusively in the NL East, then he knows the batters, so unless they want to give him a 1-year deal, I'd say his time has come to hang 'em up.
I'm not sure what's going on with Paul Lo Duca (http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/profile?playerId=3871), but he's become a singles hitter this season. Had he been as prolific as Tony Gwynn or Wade Boggs (OK, that's a very high standard, I'll admit), fine, but a .378 SLG and .689 OPS? I think that he could do much better than this.
I doubt that Jorge Posada will go anywhere. Now that they've finally found a pretty-good-hitting backup C in Jose Molina, I think the Yanks will re-sign him. As to Ivan Rodriguez, I think that he'd also likely stay with his team. Is he an FA?
If, presuming Lo Duca is working the pitchers well and has solid defense, then he may just need help with the hitting coach. Hit OPS is just .001 lower than his 2004 season (http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/stats?playerId=3871) with Florida, but down .094 from his 2006 season.
What are the complaints about Green, Alou and Castillo?

I haven't much time but some words about their lineup:
The players who deserve to stay in the Mets are:
Wright, Beltran, Delgado, Reyes and Milledge.
Other batters I'd trade into the Marlins.
And from the Marlins pick up Miggy Cabrera and H.Ramirez...

Nobody is taking on any of their ancient, underperfroming players contracts and even if they do, no team is giving up anything substantial for them. I have a feeling the Mets are going to be bad team for a while. Their team is ancient and they have no pitching whatsoever.

The Mets already have a 3Bman and SS. If they picked up these two, then where do they put David Wright and Jose Reyes?

Ou, yes. You've right.
3B Wright, CF Beltran, 1B Delgado, SS Reyes and RF/CF Milledge.
The Mets have to acquire 2B, LF/CF.
Dan Uggla 2B
Freddy Sanchez 2B
Josh Willigham LF
Adam Dunn LF

I don't think trades made in dreams are valid.

seriously, how are the mets going to improve? The FA market is not very good and they have no trade chips...at least any that would get them something significant. Theyre screwed.

O, no... are you expected to see the Cubs as the NLC winner!
NO. I'm sure.
But the Cubs ARE THE WINNER. It's not a dream.

The Mets and starters...?
Bad...
only Perez, Maine and (healthy) Martinez.
Other starters are mediocre starters, not so bad, not so good.

Fire Minaya for being so stupid as to give away Bannister

It aint rocket science to figure out before that trade that young guns like Maine and Bannister were going to anchor your roto, and on the cheap no less. Those 2 guys are class. Minaya is an idiot

Minaya is not an idiot. He made arguably the wisest move in the history of baseball. He went out and signed a guy, who was a bum basically his entire career, that had a bit of success for a few months last season, then it comes out that said player tested positive for steroids during that season and will serve a 50 game suspension to start the next season is brilliant.....what made this move even more intelligent is that said pitcher was signed after all this was known and it was a 2 year deal. Minaya is no dummy.
