check out this quote from the Rockies-Dbacks game recap article on AP, last paragraph

"Arizona's 90 wins are the fewest by a division winner since division play began in 1969 and the D-Backs' .556 winning percentage is the lowest for a top seed in major league history"

Was this the moron reporter's own personal research? Did the 1973 82-79 Mets not exist?

This guy gets paid to do this? I wonder if it's the same guy who asked Barry Bonds with a straight face if Ryan Howard could get to 500 HRs at an earlier age than AROD had just done. Total imcompetence

Maybe this reporter is a newbie that even forgot about the 83-79 Cards last year.

The worst was the '05 Padres that got in with an 82-80 record.

He is talking about the top seed.

Yeah you're right. The Rockies finish a game behind the D Backs at 89-73 and still have to play another game to make the playoffs.

I demand a recall on those 2 HR balls that the umps didn't give us that replay showed was a HR and cost us those 2 games.

Do I think replay should be used in baseball, hell no it is just part of the game.

Yeah, maybe they changed it, but that quote is wrong. It now says league-leader, which I bet is true.

Obviously other divisions have been won by sub-90 win teams. 87 Twins, 06 Cards, 05 Pads.

I think it was Ernie Harwell's book, though I could be wrong. the story is told of a broadcaster, trying out as a rookie on the radio, down in Georgia. he'd made a lot of mistakes early, but Harwell figured, "Well, maybe he's just nervous." However, after the home team clinched the win int he top of the 9th, Harwell (or whoever) reports that the following happened (paraphrase):

"We'd already won, but the announcer came on and said, 'They are electing not to play the bottom of the 9th; we will call down and check why they are doing this.' He was fired." Perhaps before he left the booth :-)

I think one of the rules of broadcasting is you should know something about the game. Like, basic rules.
