Not much is being said about Chipper Jones this year, but he's having an outstanding year. His raw stats are nice - .339, 29, 102, his batting average being just .1 away from a possible batting title; he leads the NL with a 1.034 OPS, which is just great for a 3Bman (or anyone), and his 167 OPS+ also leads the NL.

I think Jones has solidified his Hall of Fame candidacy this year, but there's just no talk about what a great year he's had.

You're right, the national mediots have ignored him despite having his best season in five years.

But we haven't.

I sure as hell haven't. :)

It basically comes down to a head-to-head hits battle with Matt Holliday today. It's quite possible that walks could be the enemy.

Granted, there was once a bit of buzz about Chipper, but then the Braves fell out of the race.

He's fielded well, too. I'd definitely put him top 5 in MVP voting.

I think Holliday will ended up winning the batting crown, as well as the NL MVP, who knows.

his batting average being just .1 away from a possible batting title;

you mean .001?

Anyways, great season for Jones despite the fact the Braves won't be in the playoffs....for the second straight year.

I agree Holliday on Batting Title and NL MVP. Chipper had a great year and was relatively healthy for once. I was pleasantly surprised by it. He probably won't even get top 5 consideration for MVP though.

He had his healthiest season in a long time and it showed. Maybe he can build off of that and avoid unfortunate accidents, like the one in Pittsburgh. That was really his undoing this year.

It was great to see Chipper Jones have a fine season. He was the favorite player of my father, who died in August. I watched the last Braves game on TBS and pulled for Chipper to get his average above Holliday's.

Chipper had a superb season. He missed 30 games but at his age that is probably a plus. This is a plus for his HoF candidacy though I think many of us would say he needs 3 more seasons like this one. His quality numbers are great but his counting numbers are a little light.
