Rather this thread should be named, who will finish behind A-Rod and Magglio for third place in the AL MVP voting, because A-Rod will win it unanimously.

I think considering his salary and the fact that he wasn't even on the starting lineup on Opening Day, you have to give the award to Jack Cust.

Just Kidding. It's A-Rod by a mile.

Ordonez had a magnificent year and it isn't quite good enough to catch Arod.

ARod should run away with this Award.

Heyyyy...why isn't the voting public???

I agree. Posada's 3rd on my ballot. Polls like this need to include everyone under the sun.

Also a candidate that deserves consideration in the voting process, Mike Lowell.

Underrated this season (probably because he didn't hit 50 homers) has been David Ortiz. I'd put him over Magglio Ordonez at this point, behind only Rodriguez. He's hit 35+ homeruns, 50+ doubles, an ops+ of like 175. Off the top of my head I think he has more BB's than K's. If you're in to average he's hitting .333 and (off the top of my head, again) he may be the AL OBP champ. The Sox division title only betters his case. If he actually played a position I'd take him over A-rod, but to A-Rod's credit he's had a great season as well (at third base yet).

As far as runs created goes, Ortiz is behind A-Rod and only slightly ahead of Ordonez. Ortiz has a RC of 152, A-Rod of 161, and Mags of 148. I agree though Ortiz isn't getting his due credit.

Big Papi's been underrated as a hitter. But as a DH he loses a lot of value. Think about it -- the Red Sox would rather have Manny play the field than Ortiz. Manny's awful, costing the Sox like 30 runs. That has to be Ortiz's DH penalty.

That and Mike Lowell is probably the best player on that team right now.

Some manipulation of their data, as outlined by Justin here:
http://jinaz-reds.blogspot.com/2007/03/how-should-we-calculate-zone-rating.html

There are obviously some issues and the system will miss on some players, but it's pretty good for not using play by play data.

Most of A-Rod's RBI were when the team didn't need them.

I say A-Rod, because he simply has had the best statistical season of any player this year, and because he help the Yankees not drown when they were struggling earlier in the year.

Not even up for consideration. Take away all his game winning hits and homers, which I can't even count on one hand, his staggering RISP numbers (.323/.460/.678, 18 homers, 77 RBI's in 177 AB's,) then yes he hasn't been getting the big hits.:laugh
