Chicago Cubs 66-96 .407 17.5

The Cubs have 0.407 in the season 2006. After they spent about 300$ in the winter market, they are now very near to win the NLC title.
Who is /or who are/ so worthy for their triumph?
Soriano, Lilly, Ramirez, Lee...
IMO, the best step int the right direction was Lou Piniella. And the players, of course.
What's your opinion?

Very deserving, after a slow start, the Cubs finally could deliver, and they're inching closer to their first division title in 4 years, and also thank the Brewers for collapsing in the second half as well.

The Cubs didn't really win it. Of course, they will in the technical sense, but the Brewers lost it more than the Cubs won it. And really, is this such a surprise? With all that money they threw at Soriano, Lilly, and Marquis, they were the favorites heading into the season. The depressing thing about it is that other big-market GMs will decide that it doesn't matter how much money you throw at big-name FAs, as long as they produce, thus pricing out the small-market guys.

I'd say Lilly is the main reason the cubs have done well. He's been the best acquisition. Soriano has a case also but Lilly has been worth every penny surprisingly. He could be considered the ace of the staff due to Z's struggles. The Brewers probably deserve a better fate then they will get but they can only blame themselves like EB said.

Good for the Cubs and their fans, they deserve it. It's also good for me too because I bet my friend they would win the Central.

The Cubs will do it. Always in life, somebody must go down /The Brewers and the Cards/ to allow somebody to win.

Not really. Nobody will lose the AL East if the Red Sox win. The Red Sox will have just won it outright. Their winning was not due to a collapse by another team, it was due to them outplaying the other team.

It's sort of amusing to see Lilly's name as a major contributor to their success, because his offseason acquisition was seen as somewhere between extravagant and a waste. One pundit said something like, "Well, a .500 pitcher is still a GOOD thing for the Cubs."

Congratulations to him and the Chicago Cubs!

For network apoplexy, you can pray for them to face the Indians in the World Series. (And if not them, the Padres.) :D

"After they spent about 300$..."

I believe it was 300 MILLION DOLLARS, not $300.

O, Erik, Erik...you have something wrong in your speculation, it's only my opinion.

Let's say in another way your sentence:
Nobody will lose the AL East if the Red Sox win.
I could say:
Somebody will win the AL East if the Yankees lose.
Ok. Is it something wrong? No. :laugh
