CLEVELAND (AP) -The Cleveland Indians have hired a heavy hitter.
The club announced a partnership with IMG, the sports media and marketing giant, on Wednesday to help it find a naming rights partner for Jacobs Field.

The 13-year-old downtown ballpark has been called Jacobs Field - named after former owner Richard E. Jacobs - since it opened in 1994. Jacobs owned the naming rights, but his contract expired at the end of the 2006 season.

The club has not been able to reach an agreement with a naming rights partner, which is why it's turning to Cleveland-based IMG to assist the Indians in a national, regional and local search.

"IMG will allow us the opportunity not only to partner with another hometown team, but also expand our naming rights search due to the stature and credibility IMG has earned nationally and worldwide in the sports and entertainment business industry," Indians president Paul Dolan said.

Jacobs still has the option of buying the rights and keeping the name intact.

That stinks.

Though there's no chance that people in Cleveland call it anything other than Jacobs Field even if it has a new name.

It'd be sweet if they named it after a bank. More parks need to be named after banks.

How about an insurance company? Because nothing says a wise investment of your premium money and justification of rising insurance costs like naming corporate stadia!

(Okay, I'll get off my soapbox now...)

Well, if "Jake's Pizza International" (stock symbol JAKE) were to buy the naming rights, that would probably be OK. :laugh

Maybe they can get Drew Carey to buy the rights... he's got a couple of jobs, he's doing okay... :homeplate:

With Drew's sense of humor, I couldn't wait to hear what he would call it.
