I guess Carlos Pena is a no-brainer in the AL, but who should win for the NL?
Ankiel's comeback was too late and too short.
I think maybe I'd give it to Tim Hudson or Dmitri Young, but I'm sure I'm forgetting some people.

I think Dmitri Young is the favorite. Oliver Perez deserves it more than Hudson. Hudson just had a bad season last year.
Look at Perez this season (so far) and last season.

Good point. Perez looks like a solid candidate. Brad Lidge was also godawful last season, and has had a nice resurgence.

I also agree, Peņa in the AL, Dmitri Young in the NL

I not sure but is Josh Hamilton able to compete for Comeback Player of the Year. I still find his story amazing, equalling or bettering Ankiel.

I think Sammy Sosa should get some consideration for American League Comeback Player of the Year.

He disappeared ever since he hit his 500th home run.

His 500th was a few years ago. He hit his 600th this season.

I meant to say 600th. I got confused with all the 500 HR this year.

Sammy currently has 608 homeruns - 20 this year.

8 home runs in 4 months. Explains why he disappeared.

The reason is the Rangers decided to go with younger players because they were hoplessly out of the wild card race - Sammy didn't get much playing time but he made the most of his chances.

both former Tigers first basemen and the Tigers desperatly needed some power from the 1st base position
but on the other hand...both were not performing when they were Tigers.....so I'm not going to blame the Tigers for letting them go
No love for Jon Lester?
That's a different kind of comeback. Besides, his numbers aren't even that good.

I was unaware that only one type of comeback was eligible for this award. I think Lester's is a far harder comeback than any of these other ones being mentioned, don't you?
You're right though, his numbers aren't great.

To be honest, Josh Hamilton's comeback is better considering Ankiel changed jobs, Hamilton changes his life.

Not in a baseball way. I value a comeback from control problems as a pitcher to being a MLB outfielder a lot higher then coming back from off field troubles.
I like Pena and Young as comeback player winners. Dimitri had to sign a minor league contract to make the Nats team this year.

I think you were right the first time.
I would go with Pena and Young. I really like Hamilton's story, but I am not sure a rookie can qualify for this award.

What has Carlos Pena come back from?
AL - Sammy Sosa
NL - Dmitri Young

What does everyone think about Jorge Posada? From 2001-2003, he was considered the best offensive catcher in the AL, and then he dropped off considerably, especially in 2005-2006.

In order to be eligible for the comeback player of the year award, you have to have already been an established star in the majors, which is something that Josh Hamilton and to a lesser extent Carlos Pena never were. I think Hamilton has a good chance of winning the Tony Conigliaro award though, which is given to the player who "overcomes adversity" to succeed in the majors. Lester might end up with this award though; it's a tough call.

What has Carlos Pena come back from?
Pena came back from not having a job (he was cut by the D-Rays in ST, then they re-signed him when Greg Norton went down). Ankiel, if you forget that he used to be a pitcher, doesn't have much of a case. And really, Ankiel always had a steady job with the Cards. Young is also a very similar case.
P.S: I'd take Lester and Ankiel for the Tony Conigliaro Award.
