Rules

Only players listed on the ballot are eligible for election.
Players appearing on the ballot last played prior to 1921.
Players named on 75% of the ballots will be inducted.
A voter may vote for 0-10 candidates.
There is no ineligibility rule for “banned” players. Nor is there a minimum 10 seasons played rule for eligibility.
Retain the “no automatic induction” rule.
Eligibility rules are not waived in case of premature death of a candidate.
Voting shall be based upon the player's record, playing ability, integrity, sportsmanship, character, and contributions to the player's team(s), league(s), and to the sport in general.
Each annual election is open for ballot submission Monday to Friday. Results are announced over each weekend.
While everyone is encouraged to submit a ballot in the thread, the actual results of these elections are determined by the members of the Veterans Committee, who are appointed by me. At present there are 10 members and they are entitled to post or PM their ballots, at their discretion.

--Feeling a little more kindly towards the first generation of stars than usual. Sutton was the best 3B of the 1870s and arguably the 19th century. If you call McVey a catcher he would be the best of the 1870s. Heck, with a 152 OPS+, you could call him the best hitting catcher excepting perhaps Gibson and Piazza. I wouldn't want to be the one championing that argument there there is one to be made.

*AG2004 sold me on Sheckard. I don't know enough about McVey and Sutton to vote for them, but I'm willing to be convinced.

--McVey was one of the best hitters of the NA and early NL. He led the NA is runs created in 1874 and 1876. Although he was only 21 when the NA was founded he was already an established star, having been a member of the undefeated "first pro" team the 1969 Cincinnati Reds. His counting numbers don't look that impressive due to a) a couple missing years on the front end, b) the short schedules of the period and C) his early departure from the NL. McVeyplayed his last "major league" season at 29.
--He wasn't done as a ball player though, moving to the west coast where he served as player-manager of various ballclubs for another 10 years. He didn't leave the NL because he couldn't play anymore (he had a 132 OPS+ in his last season and was 4th in the league in RBI). He just prefered to play on the west coast and had the opportunity to manage there. The distinction between playing the NL and other leagues was not well established at that time.

I'm getting excited. Could this finally be the election where Tony Mullane gets in?

Now that Connie Mack has retired as manager of the Philadelphia Athletics, is there a way that our Hall of Fame could possibly honor him?

You might want to add Gavvy Cravath's total in...I think he got 20%.
