A few observations...

Not including our inaugural 1936 class of inductees, here are the players who were elected unanimously in their first year on the writers' ballot:

- Babe Ruth
- Mickey Cochrane
- Rogers Hornsby
- Lou Gehrig
- Lefty Grove
- Charlie Gehringer
- Carl Hubbell

Impressive cadre, that.

I count at least 10 newly eligibles in the next four years who ought to be elected on the first or second ballot. Sam Rice, Burleigh Grimes and, especially Heinie Groh need a big push this year if they've got any hope of making it.
