--With 3 2ndbasemen elected last cycle I'm adding the best available to my ballot - Cupid Childs. Also added are Perucha Cepeda and Hilton Smith. That still leaves 3 open spots if anyone has a favorite they want to try and sell me. I only have 2 outfielders on my ballot, Jim Rice and Edd Rousch, so if I can sort out the best available of the rest, that would be my most likley pool to add from.

Electing the second base trio of Whitaker, Barnes and Grant gives us a total of 210 players elected to the BBFHOF, in our 50th election. Average elections listed on my ballot falls to 13.2, a five-month low. Ken Boyer takes the longevity spot from Whitaker, now 26 times on my ballot, nearly two years I've been voting for him; five others have now been on my ballot for more than a year and a half. The top seven that I think the electorate is missing: 1) Red Faber, 2) Da. Evans, 3) Eppa Rixey, 4) Ken Boyer, 5) Bid McPhee, 6) Bobby Wallace, 7) Jimmy Wynn.

Shoring up the middle infield this time. Larry Doyle, Bid McPhee and Home Run Johnson join the cast of characters on my ballot, along with pitcher Red Faber. How to squeeze four in? I was finally convinced that Pete Browning was a dubious choice.

If someone were to ask if I give more weight to "career" guys or "peak" guys, I would say career. (We've been through this before somewhere, and it's certainly not a hard line.) That's one of the things that impressed me about Grant "Home Run" Johnson (http://www.baseball-reference.com/bullpen/Home_Run_Johnson). He was in my queue somewhere, but rose to the top when I read this at Baseball Library:
Johnson finished his career as a playing manager in Buffalo, retiring at the age of fifty-eight.
How do I call myself a career guy without including him, with everything else he had going for him? A club leader in his 20s, great line drive hitter who moved to second because Pop Lloyd was already at SS, and excelled. I think his sobriquet came in much the same way as Frank "Home Run" Baker's: not so much the number of homers as when he hit them.

I made a comment about Oms in the main discussion thread. Childs replaces Leach, and Perez and McPhee make their debuts on my ballot.

Tommy Leach, Charlie Keller, and Jimmy Sheckard are all ballot-worthy, but I don't want to put too many singletons on my ballot. Comments on them are on my Keltner List thread.
