Don Baylor, skipper of the Cubs and player who had big years because of the DH
"Sammy needs to be a more complete player" This during a stretch of 3 years of 60 plus 120 plus 295 plus

I think Baker was sick of him striking out a lot. Plus he never was that great of a fielder. Sosa certainly did have a Hall of Fame peak though (steroid or no steroid).

"Cal Ripken sucks, he was an average player at best, and he did nothing good. He has a stupid over-rated record because he didn't play very hard, and I would pay a million dollars just to spray him in the face with a full can of mace."
Some idiot from Detroit who phoned the Jim Rome show.

I heard some guy on one of those roundtable shows say that he wouldn't vote for Piazza because nowadays power guys need 500 HRs. Okay, jerky, why don't you toss that chair to the side, don some heavy equipment, turn the thermostat to about 104, and do 140 three-hour shows in 180 days while squatting. Everyonce in a while, I'll swing by to deliver some glancing blows with balls and bats. Your coworkers can barrel you down on the way to the bathroom. After 15 years, I doubt you'd gather up the energy party with Mikey's Playmate wife, let alone maintain an OPS+ higher than Ken Griffey's.
I also think it is incredibly moronic, and I hear it everyday - here, when people say that McGwire was the same player as Dave Kingman. As if .263/.394/.588 (163) remotely resembes .236/.302/.478 (115). Robinson Cano has a better BB/K ratio than Kingman!
Mac has his own issues, but at face value the guy's 1st ballot, and worlds beyond Kong.

I'm just letting everyone know now that if you cite anyone in particular from Baseball Fever your post will be deleted. Post here at your own risk, knowing that I may pull the plug on the entire thread if it gets personal or heated.

Got it, Commish. Sorry about that, and thanks for the heads up.

I once heard a guy on a local radio show call in and say that Barry Bonds "is not, never was, and never will be" a Hall of Famer.

This is not a suitable HOF forum thread, and I don't know if any other forum would want it. If you can find another forum that wants it, have the mod there reopen it and transfer it to their forum. Otherwise, this thread is closed.
