Not baseball-related, but I was wondering what everybody thinks.
I think it's, uh, interesting...

Looks like an 80s modernist office building.
Can't hold a candle to the beautiful, svelte new Cowboys Stadium, and I hate the Cowboys:
mm mm mm.
But, it's better than the church-on-roids in Indy:
They should be ashamed of that place.
I think it's in Jersey and that sucks. I want my team back. (not the Giants - they can stay there)
Other than that, it's a thing of beauty !

Yeah, that place is going to be incredible.
The original renderings of the Meadowlands stadium actually looked much better, in my opinion:
What's behind the sidelines in the new rendering, on both sides? Looks like dugouts.

I hate the Cowboys one. Generic silver blah.
Whereas the Indy one actually has character (although it does look like an overblown warehouse).

Has the NFL softened its "no roof, no Super Bowl" stance for cold-weather sites, or did NY / NJ just give up on hosting one?

It's, well, football.
It's always harder to create an attractive football stadium because you're dealing with a sport that has a uniform field and therefore the character of the playing area doesn't play that much of a factor into the game itself, unlike baseball.
Some of the better newer football stadiums:
Bank of America Stadium, Charlotte:
M&T Bank Stadium, Baltimore
Lincoln Financial Field, Philadelphia
Quest Field, Seattle

The proposed new Vikings stadium. It's not going to get passed in the legislature anytime soon, hence the random renderings in different locations.
Wow, Minn. has some nice football weather, huh?

as a huge Jets fan, very dissappointed in the new stadium. First its in NJ, secondly its plain ugly IMO, the interior looks a little different then the original with some hug screens and im sure more luxury suites and such, But the exterior is just plain UGLY. WOW one of the worst looking new stadiums so far IMO. i'd take the the huge church/warehouse/costco in Indy over this Japanese looking monstrosity anyday, this thing has Mitsubishi written all over it, LOL!! The first renderings looked much nicer. What a shame :(

I actually kind of like the design of the new place in Indy. It reminds me of an old basketball arena. I don't have pictures of it but I like the dome here in St. Louis. The architecture on the outside is very nice and it fits well with the area. It is designed like the America's Center convention center that it is attached to.

i cant take this new Meadowlands designs exterior. It looks like they said well we are on a budget, give me the cheapest exterior we can get. Great it has changing colors, wonderful??? Sharing a stadium is bad enuff with the Giants , the fact it remains in another state makes it worse???. And then to top it all off they make a horrible looking stadium ,,What a joke!!!

Yeah, I agree about the exterior... but it doesn't look as bad in some of the more distant renderings, so maybe it will look ok in person.
And it really is too bad the West Side Stadium fell through, huh?
Either way, regardless of the looks, this stadium will be a big improvement. The sightlines are fine at Giants Stadium and probably will be very similar at this new place... but it'll be nice to be able to go to the bathroom at the beginning of halftime and be back for the end of halftime, get food there, etc.
Also the NJ Transit line there should help A LOT. Driving there from NY is more trouble than it's worth, so I usually take the bus to the Port Authority in the city, which isn't as bad as driving, but the buses still hit the same traffic as the cars. If they do this railroad the right way, though, not only will that be a good way to get to the game, but it should make it easier for those two drive.
Has the NFL softened its "no roof, no Super Bowl" stance for cold-weather sites, or did NY / NJ just give up on hosting one?
Last I heard it's a possibility. It's too bad they couldn't do a retractable roof on this stadium though... I hate roofs for baseball, but for football it makes sense... it's the difference between using the place 10 times a year (or 20, in the case of the Meadowlands, with two teams using the stadium) and 50-100 times.

WOW would I like to disagree. It looks, as it was intended, to resemble the other hundreds of fieldhouses built throughout the history of Indiana.
They actually wanted the building to fit into the character of not only the city, but the entire state. And you think they should be ashamed??? Somehow, I doubt they will be. The place is beautiful.

I like the Jersey stadium except for the open end. I think it should be enclosed to keep the wind out. And the stadium in Indy looks a lot like the old Cleveland Municipal Stadium.

The thing that stood out to me right away is the NJ Transit rail line. Hope it happens.
It only took the powers that be 30+ years to figure out that the NYC metro area is not LA or located in the Sunbelt. When I lived in NYC and the NBA/NHL Arena was added to the complex in 1981-82, I thought that they would finally connect the complex to Manhattan using a spur from any of the 1000 rail lines running in the vicinity. But nope.
Largest sports facility in NYC area (with a horse racing track and a Indy Car Race at one time, no less) but had no rail access, which is a significant mode of transportation for millions of people. Special buses from the Port Authority Bus Station don't count. Dumb, dumb, dumb.
Just my grumbling about not being able to go there as a youth (no Drivers License yet) whenever I wanted to without depending on someone else.

Well, atleast that video explains a little bit as to why the outside of the stadium (facade) will look the way it does in the drawings. I'm now satisfied. Ofcourse, the Jets should be playing next to Shea, but if they had to do this from a business perspective....se la vi.

they can't be red or blue - favors giants
they can't be green - favors jets

Why not a fade? Take a look at the small "platform" at the top of the field level in the right side of this pic:
See how one end is green, one side blue, and they fade to meet in the middle? Why not do the same thing with the seats from one endzone to the other. I think it would look awesome. :hyper:

I think it is just the angle of this rendering. The stadium seems very symmetrical from a structural standpoint. The signage might also add to the feel of being asymmetrical.

I'm neutral when it comes to the Jets and Giants. My Grandpa was a Giants fan, and my friends are Jets fans, not to mention that my dad didn't pick a specific team. Why is this relevant, it is not, but the neutrality I saw on the video was actually a smart idea. Of course Jet fans don't want to read about Giant greats, and vice versa. And if both teams had their way, they'd both have a separate stadium.
Just wondering, was the West Side Stadium only to be used for the Jets?

Yes. Would have had a retractable dome though, so it could have been used for many more events throughout the year.

The one thing that pisses me off about this stadium is that when Woody Johnson bought the Jets from Mr. Hess's estate, or whoever he bought the team from, he said he was gonna move the Jets back to New York. Now, theyre staying in Jersey. What's up with that?

Theyre building a stadium in Brooklyn for the Nets. They couldn't move City Field over about 200 feet and build a stadium for the Jets where Shea is?

There's not really room for two stadiums on that plot of land since they need a lot of it for parking, but I think after the West Side Stadium proposal was turned down, they were looking into building something in Flushing Meadows Park. Not sure exactly why they decided against that (also not sure who "they" is... the city or the team)

My guess is once the West Side went down the tubes with the Olympic bid, the Jets (owner) realized he was gonna have to wait in line behind the Yankees and Mets (for a NYC site). The Giants and the Meadowlands were prepared to fill the void for them. The new stadium makes sense for both. Truthfully, the Jets and Giants have coexisted for a long time now in the same stadium. It makes good financial sense considering totally public financed stadiums seem to be a thing of the past.

I wish I could find the source, so I could provide an accurate quote, but if memory serves me right I think it was the Jets who said that if they could not get a stadium in Manhattan, they definitely did not want to be in Queens.
As a resident of that fine borough, I took that as an insult.
If the Jets definitely did not want to make their home in Queens, perhaps Queens-based Jets fans should reconsider their loyalties.

What the heck is wrong with Flushing. It's 5-10 minutes from Manhattan, people from Long Island can go there with ease, it already has a world renowned Tennis Facility and is getting a new ballpark for the Mets. Plus in the future, the chop shops will be gone. What, they are afraid of the Jets, for which they were named for?

I don't think it's something to be taken personally... I think it just made more economic sense to share the stadium with the Giants. Split construction cost, $300 million loan from the NFL, etc.

Maybe it's 5 or 10 minutes if your starting at 125th Street and 2nd Avenue (taking the Tri-Borough Bridge) at 3AM with no construction.

To me it doesn't look too much different than the current Giants Stadium. My one time there, it seemed pretty much adequet to me. I can completely understand why they want a new one... but at the same time, I completely don't. I guess for the Jets, it'd be nice to have thier "own" stadium (even though they belong in Queens. Hey I'm a Pats fan and I know that much). For the Giants, do the extra luxury suites and bells and whistles really make that much more money? Does they State of New Jersey truely stand benefit from having 20 traffic jams a year in a swamp?
Maybe if I'd just followed through with my MBA it might make more sense to me. :crazy

Look forward to seeing the progress of this stadium! Its amazing, for years nothing was happening as far as venues in NYC, just lots of talk but nothing else, now in the matter of 2 years we are seeing 4 new venues already going up (Citi Field, New Yankee Stadium, Prudential Center, Meadowlands Stadium), and then we will likely be seeing either the complete remodeling or brand new MSG sometime down the road, the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, and the remodeled Nassau Coliseum Lighthouse project.

And still has. They tried out grass for two or three years, and then went back to an artificial surface.
Yeah, it's going to be FieldTurf.
Grass is nice, but I don't blame them. Between the weather in the Northeast and two teams playing there and tearing up the turf, I don't blame them, natural grass isn't worth it.
Honestly though, artificial turf isn't terrible for football like it is for baseball. As long as it's the new FieldTurf and not that terrible Astroturf, the players seem to like it, as evidenced by the polls they do where they ask the players to rate the turf. The FieldTurf at Qwest Field in Seattle has been considered one of the top playing surfaces in the NFL.
