This year we don't really have a chance of making the playoffs, but what about next year. This year was not as bad as everyone thought it would be.

Those who thought this year would be an all out disaster for the Nats did not reckon on the mediocrity that is the NL. And there is no way they will improve enough to pass the Mets, Phils, and Braves in their own division.

Pretty loaded question that would be factored by many things.

Factors:

1. Will Nick Johnson return, will he be the same offensive batter and where doe she now fit in?

2. Whats the deal with John Patterson and does he even still have a role here? ( I don't think so)

Needs:

1. CF/Leadoff hitter. No, I am not being delusional over Nook Logan's hot Astros hitting. Fact is, the team still needs a top CF who can be a legit leadoff hitter.

2. Power hitter. Pena was a great move. The Nats need one more, maybe Andrew Jones?

3. Veteran Starter: one that is a proven winner, not just a fill in.

As much as I'd like to think next year we will make the playoffs, I don't think we will. We need at least 2 more years to be serious contenders. Giving time for Detwiler, Smoker, McGeary, Marrero, and others to prove that they can be effective major leaguers.
