The Nats dealt right hander Emiliano Fruto, who has spent the entire season with Columbus in AAA, to the Arizona Diamondbacks in exchange for minor-league prospect 1B Chris Carter...and then dealt the latter to the Red Sox as to complete the PTBNL they gave up to get Willy Mo Pena.

KingJ, remember our discussion about Carter?

So we get Carter, and we promptly give him up...gee, what a trade, couldn't we dump some other sucker in our minor-league system, besides a nice young prospect?

Another thing worth considering is that the Nationals have dealt away both Chris Snelling and Emiliano Fruto, if you recall correctly, they got those two from Seattle in the past offseason for Jose Vidro, who's hitting a nice .310 now.

Good. All he was, was a throw in for the Vidro trade. Fruto was 3-9 with an ERA hovering around 6.00. He never had a shot here given the young arms in the system, like Smoker, Detwiler, Glenn Gibson, Colton Willems, John Lannen, Jason Bergmann, Matt Chico, Adrian Alaniz and more. We are stockpiled and loaded with fine arm prospects and other MLB teams have said it, giving Fruto no real legit shot to be a long term starter here.

Jose Vidro for Wily Mo Pena (and Ryan Langerhans in AAA).

I'd still take that over Vidro.

Jose may be hitting over .310, but he's only slugging .389, old, can't play the field, can't run, and has a huge salary and the Mariners are paying nearly all of it.

Let's see:

Large salary for an old singles hitting DH with no power or speed and could possibly be heading for retirement.

vs.

Small salary for young OFs who still could end up being valuable pieces.
