What type of tape do any of you use on a wooden bat? would white hockey tape work fine for that? or has anyone else tried something different.

Regular athletic tape just by itself is usually good enough for me. I'll add some pine tar to it occasionally though. Personally, I don't like a whole lot of tape on my bats because it makes the handle feel too big. I put just enough to get a good grip and that's it. You just have to do what feels right to YOU.

yeah, I don't plan on overloading it with tape. So athletic tape works too?

Yeah definitely. I'm not really sure what hockey tape is since I live in Texas! ;) Athletic tape is the only thing I've ever used. And it's pretty cheap too.

Ok I'll just tell you how I tape my bats...

I tear my athletic tape into long strips about a half inch wide (about 1.5 cm for you lol) and go about twelve inches (30 cm) up the bat handle in a "candycane" style. Then I take an equally sized strip and go criscross up the bat from the same starting point that I used for the first strip of tape. THEN I take a strip of tape maybe a little smaller than the width of the first two strips and tape off (taping around the circumference of the bat) the starting points and ending points so that the tape doesn't peel off. The end result looks like a checkered or diamond or criscross pattern up the bat handle. Pretty sweet if you ask me ;)

Two tips: If you use this way that I told you, try to keep the second strip of tape going up the bat at the same angle that you did for the first strip of tape. This will cause your "checkers or diamonds" to line up perfectly down the handle. This is more for looks. As you can see I don't half-a$$ anything! lol

Also when you are applying tape try to keep the tape as taught as possible when sticking it to the bat. If you don't the tape could slide a little or scrunch up on you when you start hitting with it.

Hope this all makes sense to you....if not just ask me.

I found random tape somewhere and it worked. It was this white hospital tape, and its good because it doesn't start to peel of (parts of it) that bad. Also, it is a little squishy (which I like) and it holds pine tar well. Also, try using Lacrosse tape (I hope you guys know what lacrosse is). My brother plays lacrosse, so I steal his tape. It works pretty good if you put on right.

Hockey tape doesn't 'breath' like athletic tape. Use the athletic tape if you are going to use tape.

I just taped my RLC bat. I used white hockey tape since that was all I could find. I did the candycane style on the handle and made the knob much bigger, similar to Bonds' bat.

Cutters C-Tack Bat Grip Tape. Designed specifically for wood and aluminum bats and you can get your favorite color. I know Battape.com has the majority of the colors.
