I want to improve my bat speed and upper body strength but I would like to avoid lifting weights. Does anyone know a workout that could help. Thanks for any advice.

We've discussed this many times. I would do a search here. Look especially for posts from Deezeldog.

Like jake said, do a search, but briefly:
Do the overload/underload bat speed program. This is what I use, but we use game bat, 3 ounce lighter bat, and 3-5 ounce heavier bat: http://www.bigcat844.com/increasing_bat_speed.html
While upper body strength is important, lower body and core strength is even more important. Do a google search for bodyweight exercises. There are plenty of exercises that you can do using your bodyweight instead of lifting weights that will make you stronger. Are they as effective? No, but they will get you started in the right direction. Looking for squating movements, pressing movements, pulling movements, and rotational movements. Also, med ball exercises and plyometrics are excellent and require little equipment.

isometrics. I am not going to talk about anything else because I have not tryed anything else. I will only talk from experience and my batspeed increased so much I had to actually adjust my timing at the plate. If you want to know more PM me because I am not looking to advertise anything on here. Just straight out what works from experience.
Manny, I used isometrics successfully when I was in high school, but not necessarily for batspeed. If you could PM me, I'd love to hear what you have to say.....:)

Of course your joking. Right? Taking steroids will not make you better. What the roids did for Bonds is make him able to train 3-5 hours a day and be able to recover quicker...therefore getting stronger. No roids, no quick recovery, not nearly the strength gain.
Many people think you take steroids and VOILA your superman.

I just noticed, the guy on his site uses a bat as light as 20 oz, but everyone I've seen recommends just using something 3-5 oz lighter than the game bat.
any input?

Drew, the studies that were done showed that a bat 3-5 ounces lighter proved to be the most effective. I will try and get a copy of the chart posted when I get the chance.
