I can see the NY Daily News Headline tomorrow:
BUGGED!
Joba collapses as Yankees drop first 2 games
Something tells me I'll never live last night's game down.

Torre could've asked the ump to delay the game because "they wuz buggin'" and then brought in Mo for the last out. With the runner on base, it could've been in our favor.

I remember Boston coming back from being down 0-2 in an ALDS and winning. In 1995, the Yanks were up 2-0, so it's no over until the next bottom of the 9th inning ends.

All wishes granted, as was mine that Phil Hughes didn't fail us.

Ex-Beantowners Johnny Damon swatted a 3-run shot, and Trot Nixon turned a 1-run bases loaded single into a 3-run, 2-base error.

It was nice hear some Yankees fans with some class & chanting Torre instead of booing him as I expected. Hopefully in your case NY, Steinbrenner was listening. The Cashman is the one who needs to go. Look at your pitching staff! It's a joke. Mussina & Clemens are nearing extinction & Pettite can't be far behind. You're probably going to lose the MVP & closer. The last thing you want to do is change managers b/c guess what then you're looking ahead to a rebuilding year! :faint:

At least we made it to the Big Dance 6 times since 1996. We just weren't able to win more than 4.

After 2001, I figured we were all spoiled, could say "4 rings in __ years. As that number kept climing but the rings stood still, it didn't look as magnificent anymore. If we'd have sone in 2002 and possibly again in 2003, our spirits would've been picked right up.

Now Beantown of all people goes into the ALCS but we don't. Could it get any worse?

Like the various Mets fans this past week, I too will support the Cleveland Indians. They have good pitching and know how to win. Hopefully, they can, so y'all won't have too much of an advantage over us.

Oh, would someone please quite that Mets fan Autograph Collector and let him know that we at least *MADE* the playoffs?!

If Boston goes to the WS, they will have to either get swept or lose Game 7. They cannot be allowed to win it all again until 2090. It shall not be allowed to happen!

*steps off soapbox for now*

Judgment Day: Will Torre finally get axed by Steinbrenner, or will he have a second wind? Find out this winter in the only "exciting" event in the Yankees' off-season.

Meanwhile, Boston has something to live for now - something the Yankees will not see this year - holding the World Series trophy. Who will prevail? Boston or Cleveland?

If that bet was made the opposite way after the 2004 WS you would have had to use a Yankees avatar.

How about this, if the Yankees last longer than the Red Sox do than you have to wear and Yankees avatar and sig until Manny reports to ST :D

If the Red Sox last longer than the Yankees than I have to wear a Red Sox avatar and sig until New Years Day

Since the Red Sox have the division lead and the Yankees are 4th in the WC than you would have to use the Yankees avatar and sig longer than I would have to wear the Red Sox avatar and sig. Scared?

I eat my fries with either ketchup, salt & pepper, BBQ sauce or hot sauce. Never mayo. Sometimes horse radish, but never mayo.

People often eat eggs with ketchup, but it's salt & pepper for me.

Anyway, hope you like the photo collection I'd nicely put together. Now then, so glad that Schill got shelled. Thanks again, Eric Gagne!

Been a die hard Yankee fan all my life and these are not happy times. I am not only a Yankee fan but a fan of the game and you just have to appreciate how the Bosox came back. Got off the floor and did it convincingly, hats off the Boston Red Sox.

I only hope that the Yanks realize the name of the game is pitching, especially in a 5 or 7 game series. It's the same old story if a teams pitching can negate that great Yankee hitting in a couple of games the Yanks are in trouble. There is not much time to come back, it's 5 or 7 games not 162 games. I hope they learned a lesson.

Mean time, the Bosox prove to be the best in the AL this year and a worthy opponent for any team in the NL.

Seriously, congrats, but I won't be the same if you guys win. Great pitching, nice performance, the bats cooked Cleveland the way I'd wished the Yanks would've, and Okajima came back just in time after he & Matsuzaka struggled in September.

Best of luck, but I presume you know who I'm rooting for. At least your guys played nicely.

Ain't it great to be a New England sports fan? :)

Sox in the Series.

Patriots are 7-0

Celts are picked to win the NBA East

Bruins may get back some of their glory.

What I feared happened. Like I said before, the Rockies' rest was too long. They are out of their groove. And besides that; I think that inexperience comes around the corner here as well... I don't want to watch a boring WS where one team is totally dominant. So no WS for me this year.

Tessie is the Royal Rooters rally cry
Tessie is the tune they always sung
Tessie echoed April through October nights
After serenading Stahl, Dinneen and Young
Tessie is a maiden with a sparkling eye
Tessie is a maiden with a love
She doesn't know the meaning of her sight
She's got a comment full of love
And sometimes when the game is on the line
Tessie always carried them away
Up the road from "Third Base" to Huntington
The boys will always sing and sway

Two! Three! Four!

Tessie, "Nuf Ced" McGreevey shouted
We're not here to mess around
Boston, you know we love you madly
Hear the crowd roar to your sound
Don't blame us if we ever doubt you
You know we couldn't live without you
Tessie, you are the only only only

The Rooters showed up at the grounds one day
They found their seats had all been sold
McGreevey led the charge into the park
Stormed the gates and put the game on hold
The Rooters gave the other team a dreadful fright
Boston's tenth man could not be wrong
Up from "Third Base" to Huntington
They'd sing another victory song

Two! Three! Four!

I'm gonna tell you a story

I'm gonna tell you a big bad story, baby
Aww, it's all about my town
Yeah, down by the river
Down by the banks of the river Charles
(aw, that's what's happenin' baby)
That's where you'll find me
Along with lovers, muggers, and thieves
(aw, but they're cool people)
Well I love that dirty water
Oh, Boston, you're my home
(oh, you're the Number One place)
Frustrated women
(I mean they're frustrated)
Have to be in by twelve o'clock
(oh, that's a shame)
But I'm wishin' and a-hopin, oh
That just once those doors weren't locked
(I like to save time for my baby to walk around)
Well I love that dirty water
Oh, Boston, you're my home
(oh, yeah)
Because I love that dirty water
Oh, oh, Boston, you're my home
(oh, yeah)
Well, I love that dirty water
(I love it, baby)
I love that dirty water
(I love Baw-stun)
I love that dirty water
(Have you heard about the Strangler?)
I love that dirty water
(I'm the man, I'm the man)
I love that dirty water
(Owww!)

To Jordan and Yankeebiscuit...

I was born in Cambridge, MA (hospital was there)

I spent the first 28+ years of my life in Newton, MA

I am a cradle-to-grave Red Sox fan. Unlike the fans down here, I'm not a bandwagon fan. In fact, I laugh when I see a Bucs or Dolphins home game in TV and see all the empty seats.

We are loyal. Whe the Sox sucked, we still packed Fenway. When the Patriots were awful and would have 2-3 win seasons, The Fox was packed Same with the Bruins & Celtics.

Biscuit..If I didn't have commitments here (family), I'd be back home in an instant. In fact, I was supposed to be back this weekend for my college reunion but the wife couldn't go..and I didn't want to go without her.

My wife is from Long Island. She is a diehard Met/Giants/Isles/Knick fan (my FIL was a HS hoops coach)

They were the Boston Patriots from 1960-70 when they moved to Schaefer (later Foxboro) Stadium in 1971.

The Braves have been designated the Red Sox' natural rival for interleague play, no doubt because of the Boston connection.

All those Boston A-Rod haters will have to live with him. I wonder if they will jump on him when he will yell behind the back of a certain Blue Jays third baseman, if he wears a Red Sox jersey. :laugh

Don't get me wrong, the grape is not sour here. I really wanted him to be on our team. I still think that he is a great player. Greedy yes :D . But still a great player.

Sports players should enjoy representing their area by playing for that team, it does not happen much anymore, but that was one of the reason sports are so popular...because you want to see the people reprenting YOU win. Like people rooting for the Cards (if any) in 2006 said were all happy when the Cards won, the truth is St. Louis won it, and in no way they should be happy unless they hated the Tigers.

Yeah, well finally we get a manager who actually wants to travel around in the off-season and see how thnings go as far as who we see.

I'll take Girardi. Not perfect, but at least I don't have to worry about him acting like he's being catered to. He took a few coaches, but no A-Rod, Mo or any of the 2007 Yanks on his squad. He can have Giambi and Pavano if he wants.

If only that 2090 thing had lived true.

I'll accept as truth what you'd said about him in the Florida forum re his one year there. However, he's different over here. He's Posada's predecessor, and after some reported difference, Posada said he had no problem playing for Girardi.

I don't worry about his looks. Torre looked like a sad-faced person and while he doesn't look like a goon, his endless excuse-making was getting on my nerves.

I'd prefer to see what actually happens. Girardi will have a mix of vets and young guys out there, so I don't believe he'd be able to get away with some of the nonsense he'd been allowed in Miami.

Anyway, Happy Thanksgiving. Oh, and no chowda is allowed today! :D

Joey Pitbull (leave us face it, he looks like one) took #27 because Giambi has his old #25.

You're right about the gym-teacher look. I can just see him in the gym in his white t-shirt with "Property of XXXX HIgh School" on it, whistle ariund his neck, white gym shorts, calf-high socks and crisp white sneakers ordering laps and pushups for guys who screw up. And given his USMC grooming standards, him having a couple of his jock students grabbing longhairs and playing barber would have fit.

I still wonder why he was given a 3-year deal. In either case, I'm not the only one who got tired of the Yanks losing the ALDS for the last 3 seasons.

For #27, yes, that's a big bullseye on his back. Then again, I don't like A-Rod's #13, worn for former Dolphins QB Dan Marino, as Alex went to school in Miami. It's like now the 27th WS win is a "do or die" thing, rather than the previous "failed season".

After some hitting coach was fired after Phil Hughes, the most prized of the young lions, hurt his hamstring, I'd say that Girardi would be taking the absolute worst advice if he ever tried enforcing military discipline or "court marshal" of any type on the young guys. He'd never get away with this against Posada, Jeter, Mo or A-Rod.

Like I said, it'll take time, and we'll have to get used to him. If we can win some games and guys don't have to do "20 laps" after every loss, we should be fine.

Now then, y'all get on the floor and give me 50 pushups! :D

I love how you say from this point on. After the Yankees have signed two of the top free agents in baseball. A-Rod who their is no bigger free agent than him and Rivera who was the best closer on the market.

Neither team will also probably signj any big free agents anyway. Saying that the Yankees signing of Jose Molina is the bigger than the Red Sox signing of some bench player is pretty meaningless. The Yankees have already done most of their free agent signings.

Aren't these the same Boston fans that constantly complain about the Yankees going out and buying all the best players and bragging about how signing the biggest free agents don't really help?

So, I, with the most posts on BBF, am expected to accept a bet with someone who has all of one post here? Hey, pal, what's in it for me?

Why don't you change "from this point on" to "this offseason", with the word "offseason" being defined as beginning on the day after the end of the 2007 World Series, and ending on the day before the 2008 regular season?

If that were the case, I'd have already won, since Alex Rodriguez became a free agent and was re-signed by the Yankees. While I like Mike Lowell, does anyone think he's a bigger star than A-Rod? Is he even a bigger star than Miguel Cabrera, who gets more interest, despite the king's ransom in players his team would expect for him via trade?

Between the "from this point on" thing, to your having all of 1 post, something smells fishy about your post. That you even would come to think that I'm the so-called leader of the Yanks here on BBF (which I'm not if you really knew us) shows to me that you may not just be the innocent passerby that you make yourself out to be.

I also don't understand why the color choices would be red or black. Why not red or navy blue?

No thanks on the bet. Enjoy your day, however. :waving

My advice is to never take a bet with a newbie. The odds are greatly in their favor, and the low-risk thing of their not even having to show up after a loss is another obvious thing they don't mind one bit.

I'd say it's like if you made a bet with someone for $5. Not that I recommend it, but if they win, they've got money to show they could pay; if they lose, they somehow have trouble paying. People like that, I don't have much time for, and this forumer came with the cheesy excuses made in advance.

I'd just give a simple "no thank you", since from this point on, I don't see the Yanks signing any more big-name free agents. If they'd signed for Aaron Rowand, I'd be happy. The Indians signed a Japanese closer, and if we'd done that, we could have an excellent setup man for the next year or so, and he could take over for Mo sometime in 2009, putting Joba in the rotation in 2008.

Who are we going to argue about? Which low-level FA is higher valued? To me, it's a wasteful battle, and the fact that the newbie has mentioned "from this point on" indicates that he/she has no confidence that Boston will ever sign a free agent bigger than Messrs Rodriguez, Posada and Rivera.

ok, and I respect the gutless fans that root for all boston/new england teams.
I have no idea why you'd say this. I'm just catching up here on this thread.

If someone was from the New England area, then I have no idea how, if they've got one MLB, NBA, NHL & NFL team in the whole area, that they would be "gutless" for rooting for those teams. Only one team for each of the above-mentioned sports in that whole multi-state region to root for.

If someone has lived for many years in New England, or at least worked or went to school there for several years, I wouldn't consider rooting for the NE teams to be "gutless" in any way.

I think that I'd have more criticism for the NY/NJ area fans who'd rooted for the New England teams, yet had absolutely no ties to the NE area, nor had they rooted for those teams before they'd started winning.

Whether or not someone was a "bandwagoner" is the key word here, I'd think.

Oh geez, someone who's half a Yankee fan and half a Beantown fan. At least you're halfway good, but sometimes I don't know whether I'm speaking with the good side or the bad side.

This Super Bowl seems like the Yanks-Beantown ALCS all over again.

Y'all should move to the NL so that we could beat you in the World Series. We have better ALCS games than most WS games.

Now git from the AL East. :p

Pssst Ken, I have news for you:

Let's keep it that way.

Accusing me of being a Beantown fan? How could you? The only time I have rooted for them was in the 2004 WS. But now they should go to rest for the coming 86 years.

Nevah will I be a Beantown fan again.

Too bad the Pats did not play the Broncos this year. That would have been an automatic loss. Even bad Broncos teams seem to beat good Pats teams.

Broncos 6-1 vs. Patriots with Brady and Belichick including playoffs. We own you.

Go Broncos!

The Broncos are a classy enough organization never to have a Spygate incident. To get Moss to play is some accomplishment. We all know he took plays off in Minnesota and Oakland. It must also be easy to have ESPN always showing you're greatness, when it's smoke and mirrors. The point is that the Broncos have and always will own the Pats.

The AFC West was down this year, but it's not like the AFC East has been for several years.

AFC Easy 6 wins right here
Buffalo Bills (7-9) (Broncos won at Buffalo this year)
NY Jets (4-12)
Miami Dolphins (1-15)

Someone will have to lasso the Celtcs, and the Yanks will have to take down the chowdaheads at Fenway.

You mean Eli The Crybaby who gave this performance on Draft Day '04?

"WAHHHHHH DADDY I DON'T WANNA PLAY IN SAN DIEGO DADDY!!!! WAAAAAH!!!!! I WANNA PLAY FOR THE NY GIANTS DADDY!!!! I WANNA HAVE MY RIGHTS TRADED DADDY WAAAAAHHHH!!!!!!!"

Too bad my 'puter is in the shop. I have this GREAT photo of Eli in "training" for the ass-kicking he's gonna get a week from tomorrow. The instant I get it back, that photo WILL be posted.

(yes, I know it's football..but it IS Boston v NY..and for years, we had Jints games televised in the Boston area...easy to hate them for that reason)

Somebody lassoing the Celts? It's Red up there guiding the moves of Danny Ainge and Doc Rivers...good thing Ainge's career as a Blue Jay infielder never quite got past The Mendoza Line :)

And I AM chomping at the bit for Spring Training to start!

Wait isn't Tom Brady a HUGE YANKEE FAN!!!! One of the Biggest New England sports icon EVER is a.............YANKEE FAN!!!!! In all seriousness the Giants are probally the only team that can give the Patriots a game, if the last game is any evidence the Giants really have a chance! With the points the Giants are getting if I was a gambaling man I would put money on the Giants!

Unless the regular season Eli shows up, than the Giants wil be beaten horribley:hide:

ugh.....You are going to make me work to find that quote!!!! Just accept it!! Phil Hughs was a redrox fan growing up! (I dont think he is now though)

I heard this before th photo of him and his girlfriend came out,(A Yankee hat isn't that much of a disguise when you are TOM F---ING BRADY!!!) He would wear a Yankee cap in the New England locker room until someone told him he shouldn't.

What's the big deal anyway, it shows that he actually has his own mind and not going to change what he thinks just because he plays in the same state as a team that plays a different sport! I wouldn't care if Eli was a redsox fan or wore a redsox hat, as long as he dosen't throw any interseptions!

ehh... no. They'll get into the playoffs and that's good enough, but their chances of going through the playoffs is minimal, even with a league-leader in assists and a league-best SV% between the pipes.
