Well here it is Sunday August 12th and the Rockies are 5 games out in the NL West and 2 games out in the wild card race.

Here is the bad news.

-------------------------------

8/11/07 Jeff Baker Placed on the 15-day disabled list with a mild concussion.

8/10/07 Rodrigo Lopez Transferred from the 15-day to the 60-day disabled list.

8/9/07 Jason Hirsh Placed on 15-day disabled list, retroactive to Aug. 8, with a fractured fibula in his right leg.

8/8/07 Edwin Bellorin Placed on the 15-day disabled list.

-----------------------------------

The Rockies have lost 2 SP's for the season and one of our top PH'ers and reserve outfielders in the last 2 weeks and it don't look like the Monforts is going to open up their wallet for the stretch.

The 5th SP today was Harikkala that was pitching 2 weeks ago in the Korean League and didn't get out of the 4th. before being knocked out.

The season so far has been above my expectations, but with the injuries and tight wad owners I can't see the Rockies holding on to the end of the year.

Colorado's Tim Harikkala, called up from Triple-A on Saturday, made his second career start and first since 1996 with Seattle. He allowed three runs and nine hits in 3 1-3 innings and had his first major league hit and RBI.

Harikkala was designated for assignment after the game.
--------------------------

That was quick for Harikkala!

Phil - Given the uncertainty in the Rockies' final two rotation spots, everyone that lands on waivers or is released immediately surfaces as a candidate. However, David Wells is not on the Rockies' radar. Manager Clint Hurdle said that Wells' struggles in Petco Park, one of baseball's most friendly for pitchers, made it unlikely he could help Colorado. That doesn't mean they aren't looking. There are growing indications that the Rockies are tracking Baltimore's Steve Trachsel as they consider trade options.

Internal candidates who could soon provide rotation help include Triple-A phenom Franklin Morales, who starts Monday for Colorado Springs, and Elmer Dessens, scheduled to start Wednesday for the Sky Sox and throw 75 pitches.
----------------------------------------

Hope the Rockies try Morales or Dessens before signing Trachel.

San Diego - Willy Taveras stood at his locker late Tuesday night, right leg wrapped in an ace bandage, his season unraveling.

The Rockies' speedy center fielder cannot outrun a lingering quadriceps injury that flared up while running the bases and landed him on the disabled list

No corresponding roster move was announced, though Seth Smith is a possibility given his hot streak in Triple-A

Jeff Baker RF Prob Wed - Face - 8/14/07 Left Friday's game after being hit in the face by a pitch. He is expected to be available tonight.
Willy Taveras CF Out Wed - Quadricep - 8/15/07 Left Tuesday's game with a quad injury and will be placed on the 15-day disabled list on Wednesday.
Edwin Bellorin C 15-day DL - Hamstring - 8/8/07 Placed on the DL after suffering a strained hamstring during August 7th's game.
Sean Barker CF 60-day DL - Hamstring - 8/14/07 Sidelined with a strained hamstring and will miss the rest of the 2007 season.

Wow!!! Counting Rodrigo Lopez and Jason Hirsh that is 6 injuries in 2 weeks. Three starters and Baker was one of the top right handed hitters off the bench and a adequate backup outfielder.

Things even get a bit worse tonight in San Diego the rookie Ubaldo Jimenez has to face Chris Young whose ERA at home is under 1, the last time I checked.

Good game on the road today. Ubaldo matched O's with Young for 6 innings then the Rockies were able to get to the Padres bullpen for 3 runs.

Ubaldo along with Hawkins, Julio and Corpas combined for a 3 hit 3-0 shutout just the 3rd of the year for the Rockies.

Colorado I believe has a population of around 6mil and not one of them is a Rockies fan that visits this section very often.

Out of 4 baseball boards I post on there is one active Rockies fan from Wyoming and that is it.

I have some affinity for your team, truth be told. I think Holliday is a fantastic hitter, and I generally check the boxscore for Colorado. I've also been paying attention to see how Atkins has been following up 2006.

How does the Rockies have no fans on here? they are a good team. I will try my best to advertise this site to Colorado.

That is good to hear.

Things are looking bleak for the Rockies the rest of the way though. Lost Lopez, Hirsh and now Cook to the DL and CF'er Taveras. Spillborghs has been doing great for Taveras.

Jeff Francis
Josh Fogg
Ubaldo Jimenez
Elmer Dessens (up from AAA Sky Sox)
Ramon Ortiz (from Twins)

Atkins started doing great a little before the AS break. 6th in the league in RBI's.

Thank goodness. Ramon Ortiz isn't going to be a SP like I thought and he didn't do very good out of the bullpen for the Rockies last night.

LHP Franklin Morales will be called up from the Rockies’ Triple-A Colorado Springs club on Saturday to make his major league debut. The 21-year-old from Venezuela signed with them as a non-drafted free agent in November 2002 at age 16. . .

RHP Ramon Ortiz, acquired Wednesday by Colorado in a trade with Minnesota, made his Rockies debut and gave up Sweeney’s RBI single. This is Ortiz’s fifth big league team in five seasons. . . .

I see that they're optioning Clint Barmes to AAA to make room for Morales. Looking over his stats, why'd they wait so long to send him down? Looks like there's just no room for him.

Barmes just had been with the Rockies since the Jeff Baker injury. With 7 recent injuries there has been some shuffling of players with the Sky Sox.

Franklin Morales pitched a pretty good game last night. To bad the Rockies bullpen couldn't hold the lead for him.

It's brains over Braun.

That's the key to Rockies shortstop Troy Tulowitzki overtaking Milwaukee Brewers sensation Ryan Braun for National League rookie of the year honors.

Braun is the favorite with 24 home runs in his first 78 games. Tulowitzki, however, has 17 home runs, tied for the sixth most ever by a rookie shortstop who has played at least 100 games at the position.

Nomar Garciaparra represents the high-water mark with 30 in 1997, followed by Baltimore's Ron Hansen (22), Oakland's Bobby Crosby (22), former Yankee Tom Tresh (20) and Cubs Hall of Famer Ernie Banks (19), according to Elias Sports Bureau research. Tulowitzki has gone on a power tear since June 7, hitting 15 home runs in 65 games.

The 22-year-old credits pointers from Todd Helton, Garrett Atkins and, in particular, Matt Holliday for his power surge.

"I talk to them and ask them why they do certain things. I have really learned a lot from Matt," Tulowitzki said. "He's helped me shorten up my swing. I thought you had to be long to have power, but I could immediately feel a difference in batting practice when I changed."

Tulowitzki believes Braun has the rookie of the year award secured. But there is a statistic that suggests Braun isn't a lock. He has 20 errors and the worst range rating of any third baseman. Tulowitzki has 10 errors and ranks second among all shortstops in fielding percentage and first in putouts.

"I think Tulo should win it given the premier position he plays," Holliday said. "With his hitting, he's so strong with a quick bat, all I told him was not to worry about the inside pitch. He handles it as well as any young player I have ever seen."

Little plug for the kid. Hard to believe everyone has Braun way ahead of Tulo in the ROY award when he can't play a lick of defense.

The Rockies set a club record last night when they scored 5 in the bottom of 9 to overcome a 5-1 lead that the Nats had.

Jeff Francis threw a great game today to help the Rockies from being swept in SF.

8-0 Rockies and the 2nd career shoutout for Francis.

Should have Aaron Cook back soon and Taveras is suppose to return this weekend for the D Back series.

Win tonight over the Giants will give the Rockies a season high 6 games over .500 I believe.

4 outta the wild card so they are hanging tough.

COLORADO ROCKIES-Recalled RHP Denny Bautista and INF Omar Quintanilla from Colorado Springs (PCL). Purchased the contract of LHP Dan Serafini from Colorado Springs

With a combination of luck, good ball and the long ball, Fogg can add Chris Young to his list of good pitchers he has beat. Don't know how he does it but Fogg was 11-9 last year and now 9-9 this year with a combined 2 year ERA near 5.25

Luck= 4 runs with 4 hits and a odd 1-4-3 DP with runners on 1st and 3rd with the Rox holding a 1 run lead in the top of 8

Good ball= Rockies throwing out 3 runners with 2 plays at the plate. On a bang bang play they came very close to getting Ensberg at 3rd. Padres stayed aggressive on the base paths today even though it kept costing them. Holliday and Spilborghs made some great throws.

Outfield assists: Holliday (Ensberg at home), Spilborghs (Barrett at home

Josh Fogg

COLORADO ROCKIES-Purchased the contract of LHP Josh Newman from Colorado Springs (PCL). Placed RHP Ramon Ramirez on the 60-day DL.

The team placed reliever Ramon Ramirez, out with right shoulder inflammation, on the 60-day disabled list to make room for Newman on the 40-man roster.

The 25-year-old Newman has never made an appearance in the major leagues. He was 3-2 with a 4.06 ERA in 55 relief appearances for the Sky Sox this season.

Guess they are going to try Redman as the #5 SP

First of all I would like to say that the "POP UP'S" are getting ridiculous on this site. I have 3 pop up blockers but somehow BBF has figured out a way to get through all 3. Couple days ago a pop up somehow knocked me off a reply that I spent 30 minutes chicken pecking that I couldn't recover.

Anyhows

Season high 11 games over 500 and the Rockies tie their franchise mark of 83 wins 7 games to go.

Sweep the Dodgers 4 games and then beat the Padres the first 2 games on the road to get within 2 1/2 games of the Padres in the wild card.

Go Rockies!
