this is my first post; found this sight while looking up some of my old baseball cards; i have a couple of questions

1. sending stuff through the mail; i saw the above post, and some players i want to send stuff to, did not have a price listed; should i send money or just try to get it for free?

2. stuff through the mail---what would you say the percentages are you get stuff signed back?

3. retired players---how do you find their home addresses? i saw the post where i can pm the guy, but i dont want to ask for like 5 players---i was wondering if there is a site that has address posted

3b. how reliable are the addresses?

4. ive seen the term flats used here and at signings---would magazines be considered flats?

5. will players do inscriptions through the mail for free, or are they more too?

6. hank aaron---chances of getting an autograph through the mail; does he do any signings?

thanks

1. If the players are not in that thread, they most likely do NOT charge

2. depending on who you send to 0-75%

3. you can buy address books from Harvey Meiselman or Jack Smalling or go to www.star-collector.net

3b. those addresses are highly researched, but always check them on www.usps.com

4. yeah flats are flat items

5. some add inscriptions for free, some dont
pat neshek will inscribe anything you want 4 free

6. if you send to hank without any money
u will probably get a fake
he charges $100 for his signature
he does some signings
usually private signings

1. Most will sign for free, check the thread about who charges for an autograph

2. Depending on who you send to, I'd say its usually around 55-75%.

3. Star-Collector.net, Sportscollectors.net are a few good sites

3b. Usually very reliable

4. Yes

5. Some players will do them, some may not, but they usually dont charge money for them

6. I doubt he signs through the mail. I'm not sure about shows.

Hope this helps!

1.) Try for free. What's the worse that can happen? Either they will sign your card(s) for free or return them asking for $.

2.) Percentages? It's all a luck of the draw. While some members here may get back from Player X... others may not. it all depends on the players signing habits and mood when your letter arrives.

3.) The guy? I assume that you mean me? :) Harvey's book is the best, as some have posted his website above. With Smalling's address book, I got too many "Return to sender. Address unknown". OR my favorite: "No suck street address". Have seen a few of those in my time using Smalling book.

3B. Harvey's address' are pretty darn reliable if you ask me. I may have gotten ONE "Return to sender" since I bought his book at the end of last yr.

4.) Also of your lesser known retired players sign magazine covers.

5.) I have found that if you ask the player to inscribe nicey then they will free of charge.

6.) Hammerin Hank does indeed do signings. More in his home state of GA.

1.) Yes. You should always include a short letter when requesting an autograph through the mail. What do you say in the letter? Well, that's up to you. Be creative, BUT do not go overboard. Always include "Please" & "Thank you".

2.) http://www.sportsaddresslists.com/baseball.html

3.) Contact these folks:
Hank Aaron
Hall of Heroes
Roosevelt Field Mall
Garden City, NY 11530

That link that I provided is for information and how to purchase the baseball address list (click on it, and you'll see). It provides zero home address. Buy the book, and you'll have all of the home addys that you need.
Does he have other sports address books? Yes he does. Inquire within that weblink.
