It's called sniping, a legit but completely maddening process. I've been there, been angered by it.
You never know with eBay. Chances are a similar item will be up for bid shortly. Good luck.

I was the high bidder for a set of 1925 Sporting News's for two days and someone bid on it at literally the last second and I didn't get it.
I've always thought with ebay, whats stopping the seller from bidding himself with a different user name in order to higher the price?? I always prefer Buy it Now.

I thought there was a policy against that kind of unscrupulous selling if it can be uncovered. However, that is different from what happened here.
Buy It Now is always good as long as the price is fair.

Generally with eBay, if I want an item, I'll wait until the last second to bid on it at all. IMO, bidding any earlier only serves to inflate the price, and possibly initiate a bidding war which is not something that you would desire when you want to a) win the auction, and b) pay the lowest price possible.

I have to confess that I am an eBay sniper, I will stay up until 3:00 AM if there is an item I really way. But I assure you, redsoxocd, that I did not wil the Red Sox newspaper.

There have been many times I really wanted something on eBay, and lost out on it through sniping or not, and was able to get it only a short time later. And for a better price.

yeah i went down a to two of my favorite cards shops today (surprisingly their both on the same street) and although one only had stuff for 1975, the other one said that they know a guy that may have the same newspaper, so their going to talk to him, and then call me to let me know if he has it or not.

haha, like i said its a long story. To try and make it shorter: I wasnt grounded or anything, I just wasnt able to recieve any presents at the time and when I got to the point where I could recieve them they just didnt get me anything.
