I am no fan of Mr Bonds ,the person.
betcha I'd hate Ty Cobb too
I am a fan of a ballplayer who has done it as well or better than anyone else.
Seems to me a whole lot of pitchers have vanished after testing.
Bonds knocked it out of the park , the same parks his owners built smaller for that very reason, better than anyone.
BTW, I grew up in Yankee Stadium and prior to 75 it was 296 down the RF line with a 4 ft wall.
Me, I prefer a fella that took something to make my money spent a better player over a fella that took my money and mailed it in.

Methinks it's timely. Methinks it's overdone, already. Time to turn the page...

What do you mean, Bill? This is ONLY thread #11 about Bonds on the first page of the CE forum...

I guess it might be due to the magnitude of the achievement.

There can never be enough threads about the best in our lifetime (unless any of us is old enough to have seen Ruth)

Well put
Like him or not no less than Johnny Bench applauds his deeds.

I'm soooo glad that is strictly your opinion.

Bonds has never been the best player in baseball. There were times he had an argument for it in the early-mid 90's, but I'd still take Griffey Jr. over him.

Bonds has never been the best player in baseball. There were times he had an argument for it in the early-mid 90's, but I'd still take Griffey Jr. over him.

And this is just one of the many reasons why nobody is asking you to be the GM of a professional baseball team!

Bonds was hands-down, not even close, the best player. From 1990 - 1998, Griffey didn't put up one OPS+ season better than Bonds's average over that time. Bonds also stole more bases.

Normally, you can whip out Griffey's string of GGs, right? But, here Barry won a GG every year from 90 - 98 too. So, all you are left with is the run value of an elite CF over that of an elite LF, minus Barry's baserunning advantage.

You can go to the contemporaries and look at MVP shares. You can go to the numbers crowd and look at win shares. Wherever you look, it is going to say Barry Lamar Bonds wipes the floor with Junior.

Just for the cherry on top, add the fact that Junior has struck out more and hit into more DPs than Bonds in about 2,000 fewer plate appearances.

Barry's busy, Kenny, take this up with Frank Thomas...
