What acquisition is bigger for Boston sports fans? Eric Gagne by the Red Sox or Kevin Garnett by the Celtics?

Definitely Garnett, he can lead the Celtics to the playoffs. And Gagne...???? Where's he gonna be put at? Setup?

I'm primarily a baseball fan and I'm STILL more excited about Garnett coming to Bostion. We haven't had a guy like Garnett in a Celtics uniform since Bird maybe the guy that traded Garnett here.

It's sorta funny, because at age 30 (Gagne's age right now) the player he's most comparable to according to B-R.com, is Keith Foulke. That being said, if someone in 2003 told me Keith Foulke was coming to town, I probably wouldn't care too much.

I got to go with KG going to the Cs. It makes Boston a serious contender in the Eastern Conference. The NBA is probably happy with the deal too, having a player like KG going to its most storied franchise. The Gagne deal is great for the Sox, but the KG deal may have revived the Celtics.

I was using that "Most Comparable Tool" on B-R.com and Alex Gonzalez is most similar to Alex Gonzalez. I thought that was funny. Add the fact they were both in the 2003 NLCS.

I honestly didn't think it was possible for someone who never lived in Boston (me) to like Boston sports any more, until the Garnett trade happened. He's been my favorite player since I started following basketball. Cant wait to get my Celts Garnett jersey. I dont know how I feel about the new number, but whatever.
Garnett is an easy answer to this poll question.

Well Evan...atleast you still have good football tastes ;)
I don't even see how this is a question, one of the two or three best players of this generation who still is awesome on the court or a guy who is just an above average reliever. Hmmm...lemme think
The Celtics were huge in Boston in the Byrd days, the East sucks and this move makes the Celtics a contender, whereas Boston was already the divison favorite, it isn't a hard question at all. That said, I don't think the Celtics will ever b bigger than the Sox.

Garnett of course. He's a n obvious hall of famer who will lead the team.. Gagne is a supporting role.

Five years ago it would have been a lot closer, as Gagne was at the top of his game and Boston had not snapped their WS drought. A healthy Gagne is a nice addition to a team that has been successful for well over a decade. But a player of Garnett's caliber can make the long gone from the glory years Celtics a real contender in the weak East. Potential phoenix reborn.

Garnett. He makes losing out on Greg Oden/Kevin Durant seem almost bearable.

The acquisition of a HoF level player (Garnett) has to create more buzz than an oft-injured relief pitcher. That being said, I like the Sox chances of winning it all with Gagne than the Celts chances of getting tothe NBA Eastern finals.

Wow, Garnett is really running away with this poll! I thought since this is a baseball board, Gagne might have had a chance.

Garnett already has 12 NBA seasons so he does have "a lot of miles" on his legs. Does that concern Celtic fans?

Not really. Centers and Power forwards don't decline like guards because they don't rely on their speed as much. I would have rather gotten him 3 seasons ago when he was really in his prime, we're still ecstatic over it though.

Gagne isn't exactly the "straw that stirs the drink." Garnett is...

But will Gagné stir the drink bad? :D ;) :p
Anyway, like others have said, go back to when he had his big streak, it would've been a closer question. Right now, Garnett is the real "G" man in Beantown. Gagné will have to earn his first bowl of chowda! :laugh

Who needs ESPN to figure out that a great player like Garnett will stir the drink a lot better than Gagne would? A healthy Gagne still wouldn't be in first place right now. That's how popular the NBA is about now. Heck, LeBron James can be a rap star on the ESPY Awards. I'd like to see any MLB star do that!

Obviously Garnett, but with that said, I can see Garnett having a season ending injury in the first week of the season. Karma for throwing games down the stretch to get the top pick

The Celts getting Garnett would have been akin to the Sox getting Pujols or A-Rod, depending on which you see as being the Kobe of MLB.

Since Basketball has a lot less people on the court than baseball does, one player can make a huge difference in Basketball (L. James), so depth generally in basketball is overrated. Gagne, even if he was .400 hitting Shortstop, is still only 1/9 of the team where Garnett is 1/5 of his starting team, he has much more impact, espicially because he is a future hofer.
