Philadelphia A's..............The Philadelphia A's were a very colorful and interesting franchise. They played a championship-type of baseball in the early 20th century. All true baseball fans should check them out.

Here's a great picture of the Philadelphia A's dugout during the 1931 World Series (before a game I would guess) with a certain peculiar person donning an A's cap. Also...a picture of Gehrig, Speaker, Cobb & Ruth (1927 or '28).
Cheers! ~B

I had read that because of the Great Depression, the Philly A's second dynasty began losing money. They built an 18 foot fence to block people across the street from looking in free of charge. Jimmie Foxx hit 58 hrs that season, and hit an additional 18 into the screen. He would have had 76.

I read that the 'spite wall' went up in '35. Lotta corrugated base hits. Also gave Shibe an unmistakeable look from photographs...

Nearly 100 years later and those houses are still standing. I wonder what kind of shape they're in.

Well, it's been a run down neighborhood since the late '50s...and prospects are not bright.

I know it's been a spell since you posted this photograph Solair . . . but it absolutely smokes! I love it . . . the entire feel to it . . . the camarederie of an old neighborhood and their team.

Always helps looking at a photo like this with Scott Joplin playin' . . . ha!
