The Nationals signed infielder Ronnie Belliard to a 2-year/$3.5 million contract extension, worth $1.25 million per season.

Bill Ladson also reports that he will NOT be dealt and that he will be part of the Nationals' future plans, I guess this spells the end of Cristian Guzman in DC.

Not necessarily, especially with the year Guzman was having before he got hurt. Belliard was originally signed as a utility IF, which is probably what they still intend for him to be. If Lopez doesn't step up and start producing offensively, I could see Belliard getting more starts at 2B than SS.

Ronnie's always been a good ball player and has played a ton of 2b in his career.. i like what the Nats are trying to do and hopefully they'll be a better ball club next year..
