Does anyone have any memories you would like to share about former Boston Braves and Milwaukee Braves player Sibby Sisti?

My Mom and late Stepdad knew Sibby Sisti from a winter condo complex in Palm Springs, FL. Sibby Sisti passed away at 85 in April, 2006.

In 1948, Sibby Sisti played for the Boston Braves. The Braves won the National pennant and played the Cleveland Indians. Sisti was on base during a controversial play, which occurred in Game One of the Series. In the bottom of the eighth inning in a scoreless tie, Phil Masi pinch-ran for Braves catcher Bill Salkeld. Mike McCormick bunted Masi to second on a sacrifice. Feller intentionally walked Eddie Stanky, who was replaced by Sibby Sisti. Feller then tried to pick Masi off second. Lou Boudreau appeared to tag Masi out, but umpire Bill Stewart called him safe. Tommy Holmes then singled Masi home with the only run of the game to give the Braves a 1-0 victory. Although this gave the Braves a 1-0 lead in games, the Indians bounced back to win the World Series in six games.

Sisti was a major leaguer when he was called to serve in the military during WWII. After the war, he was sent to Indianapolis of the American Association in 1946, where he proceeded to bat .343 and was named The Sporting News Minor League Player of the Year. He was inducted into the Greater Buffalo Sports Hall of Fame in 2001 and was also selected to the Boston Braves Hall of Fame. He played every position except catcher during his major league career and coached in six different cities.

He even had a small role as a coach in the movie The Natural.

Here is a bio of him that appeared in the Amherst Bee upon his death in 2006.

In game 6 of the 1948 World Series, Sibby Sisti pinch hit for Warren Spahn in the bottom of the ninth, with one man on first (Connie Ryan who was pinch running for Eddie Stanky) and no one out. The Braves were behind 4-3.

Sisti attempted to sacrifice Ryan to second, but Jim Hegan caught his bunt and doubled up Ryan. One batter later (the above mentioned Tommy Holmes) the Braves lost the Series.
