Can someone tell me what the proper way is when sliding head first?

Any tips or pointers?

Any tips or pointers? How old are you?

High-schooler.

At the high school level I taught it several different ways. Some of the players had an easy time of it and could naturally get the hang of it, others had a tough time. For those having a tough time we used a wet grassy area (you will get very dirty) We had them run toward a target getting progressively lower until they felt like they were falling forward. At the point they felt like they would fall forward we had them push off and dive. Start slow with only several steps and then increase the speed and distance. The target is not important while getting the knack of the slide itself. Once you have the feel I would teach sliding to a target trying left hand, right hand, and a variation of a hook slide. Hope this helps.
