Thankfully, this wasn’t one of our P’s, but it was in a game we played yesterday afternoon.

This P is a big ol’ Senior country boy who can throw hard as all get out, but happens to have propensity to throw his breaking balls only 59’.

1-23s, 12b, 2bb, 1k, 1h, 3r
2-10s, 9b, 1hbp, 2k, 1h
3-12s, 8b, 2k, 2h
4-13s, 10b, 2bb, 1k, 1h
5-9s, 8b, 1bb, 1k
6-11s, 6b, 2bb, 1k, 2h, 3r

That’s 68 strikes and 63 balls for 131 pitches. 8 K’s, 7bbs, 1 hbp, and 7 hits.

Altogether their P’s threw 155 pitches, walked 9, hit 1, and gave up 9 runs on 9 hits.

Our P’s were a heck of a lot sharper.;)

Our 4 P’s threw 152 pitches, walked 7, hit 3, and gave up 8 runs on 9 hits.

The kid who threw the most threw 97, walked 2, hit 3 and gave up 2 runs on 5 hits in 5 2/3 innings.

The thing is, its bad enough to allow these kids to throw that much in the middle of a heated pennant race or prestigious tournament, but is was just a BS summer game between 2 HS summer teams, and the game meant absolutely nothing, so I have no idea what the point is.

However, knowing that these are mostly pretty good HSV players, I can only imagine what’s goin’ on across the country in youth ball where the ages are considerably younger, the players obviously not nearly as skilled, and the games percieved to be tremendously more important. :ughh

What's wrong with a high school pitcher throwing 97 pitches if he has enough rest? I see our high school's JV program throwing kids two and three innings an appearance. They get to varsity lacking endurance.

Who said there was anything wrong with a HS P throwing 97 pitches?

As a matter of fact, he threw on 5 days rest after throwing 90 last time out. But, he also threw with a sore arm he’s had for a couple of weeks, and says its getting worse. I guess its good for him to build up that endurance though, it’ll make a man of him. No pain, no gain.

I can see why having endurance in HS is such an important item. For what those guys get paid, they ought be out there throwing at least 7 innings every game, 3 times a week!

To some pitchers, 3 innings is more than enough to build endurance! Its very seldom that a P only throws 3 pitches and an inning is over. Much more likely its something like 16-22 PPI.

Are you trying to say the HJV coach at your HS never throws any pitcher more than 3 innings in any game at any time of the year, or that you’ve personally have seen an undisclosed number of JV pitchers throw only 2 or 3 innings? Then are you trying to associate what you’ve seen at the JV level to what goes on at the V level, and of course you’ve seen every HSV game for that school so you know for sure that none of the V pitchers have any endurance.

So why didn’t you say anything about the kid throwing the 131? By not commenting, are you implying that he’s gonna be one of the goodun’s because he’ll have lots of endurance, thus encouraging every coach out there to have their P’s throw 25% more than the max ASMI suggests, and encouraging every parent to allow coaches to do that to their children unquestioned?

Who put the burr up your butt? No where in your post did you state the kid has any kind of arm problems. Where did I say anything about pitching seven innings three times a week? I mentioned endurance and kids being called up to varsity after pitching only two or three innings in JV ball. Our JV coach uses three pitchers a game. They never go more than three. I've watched enough high school and Legion games in the last two seasons to see the way the kids are developed is not developing endurance. I don't believe I made any comment at all about any pitcher throwing 131 pitches. I don't think you should assume anything.

What I will tell you (and I'm not the first to post this) your posts have become very confrontational and antagostic lately because you've been making far too many assumptions. Before you assume anything, try asking questions.
