People are really going nuts over Culp's 1970 season, huh? I wonder what I could get for Singer's 1969? (no, he's not on the table, don't bother... my hope is in my future starting pitching, although I'd be happy to discuss giving up people who can help this year, as I'll be tanking due to a lack of foresight in starting pitching).

Please don't go back and edit posts to reflect changes in bids. Just post a new bid. It can get very confusing that way.

Ain't no way it's worth that kind of money! Perhaps something to dangle in front of an expansion owner for a high draft pick??

The Hard Cider will be sending starting pitcher Pete Richert to the Diablos, where he will immediately become the number two starter behind Earl Wilson. The Diablos will be sending their second round draft pick in 1968 back to the Cider.

Say the Diablos: "We now have Wilson, Richert, and Brunet starting for us... and some middle relievers filling in the rest of the innings. Good luck to us. Part timers Jim O'Toole, Jim Merrit, and Jack Hamilton will be filling out the rotation for us."

--The Knights ink Camilio Pascaul to a 3 year deal. We ended up paying him more between the buyout and new contract than we would have just by keeping him, but we do get his last good year in 1968 out of the deal. Camilio gets us to 40 players at 91M. Still room for that big deal at the trade deadline!

Earl Battey (4.75M/1 year)
Sam Bowens (250k/1 year)
Tito Fuentes (2.25M/1 year)
Chuck Harrison (750k/1 year)
Bill Hepler (250k/1 year)
Zoilo Versalles (750k/2 years)

Which leaves the Stingers at 92.75M with 38 players.

Cannons also sign these players, all to 1 year .250 M deals (Henry was as well):

P Carroll Sembera
P Pedro Ramos
C Jesse Gonder
OF Rocky Colavito

And this brings them to 40 players with a 71.75M payroll. That 33 for 70M I posted earlier, upon checking further, was a little off. I actually had 35 for 70.5 M then.

Yeah, no problem. I'll probably submit mine Wednesday, as I am going somewhere tomorrow.

--Here is what I have for rosters as of the end of this auction. 5 teams are at 40 and 4 others within 1-2 either way. The Pirates need 14 players (contrary to my previous comment they did land 1 free agent). The Gamblers need 6 and the Diablos need to cut a dozen players after their FA blitz last night.
--There is one correction made after I downloaded the attachment. The Stingers signed Curt Simmons only to later see he had been signed by the Diablos. Since Jim was already 11 players over the cap I originally went ahead and let Max have Simmons. When I came back to the thread I see Max had edited from Simmons to Pizzaro. So Pizzaro is a Stinger and Simmons the 52nd Diablo.
--Please point out any errors on your roster ASAP and make needed cuts/signings ASAP. Profiles due by Friday. Anyone under 40 at midnight Friday will have a cap penalty of 250K per spot charged. Anyone over I'll release a minimum wage free agent(s) if you have one. Otherwise I'll select someone else. I'll also be building profiles saturday for any team which doesn't get one submitted by Friday.

Shoeless signings are as follows:

Julian Javier, 1.75, 2 years
Johnny Edwards, 1.00, 3 years
Duane Josephson, .50, 3 years
Bob Purkey, .50, 1 year
Bud Harrelson, .25, 3 years
Diego Segui, .25, 3 years
Joe Sparma, .25, 2 years

40 players signed at 90.00

As a side note, Frank Howard accounts for 23% of the team salary!

The roster attachment is missing Lou Piniella (as it will be until 1969).

Gold Sox sign the following:

Wally Bunker: 1.75M, 3 yr.
Jack Sanford: .50M, 1 yr.
Don Schwall: 1M, 1 yr.
Maury Wills: 7.75M, 4 yr.

EDIT: Also, I released both Jim Owens and Dick Stigman during the non-tender period. This should put me at 38 players for 75.75M.

The Legends announce the following contracts were signed with their recent free agent acquisitions:

Jake Gibbs, Catcher - 2 years at 4.25M
Bill Monbouquette, Pitcher - 2 years at 4.25M
Gene Oliver, Catcher - 2 years at 2.25M
Bob Saverine, 2B - 2 years at 4.25M
Mike Shannon, OF - 3 years at 10.25M

Due to roster restrictions, recently acquired catcher Mike Ryan will have to be released. The Legends will still be responsible for his salary of 1.75M for the 1966 season.

That puts the Legends at 85 Million, 40 Players

Mark, that brings up an interesting question. If another team wishes to pick up Ryan as a free agent, would they get him for nothing, since I'm already on the hook for his salary? My guess is no, that Ryan is just really lucky and will get TWO salaries!

He would get minimum wage from his new team, plus your generous payoff.

Payoff seems to give an aura of impropriety:disbelief: . How about rectifying a mistake in judgment?:p :laugh

In other words, Ryan hits the jackpot!!

Is Forced Free Agency a yearly event or just for several years?

leecemark
07-19-2007, 09:23 AM
--1966 will be the last year of forced free agency. The league started with a draft of all players active in 1961. We wanted to make sure there was some player movement so we came up with this way to ensure a decent free agent class, with the teams with the best records losing higher priced players. Beginning in 1967 it will be the rookie class from 6 years prior who become free agents each year (1962 debuts players after 1967, 63 after 68, etc).
