Q: What is the LEAST amount of batters one team's pitcher(s) can face before the game is over??

(provided there is No rainout, no post-poned game- just a normal game)

this feels like a trick question, but im gonna toss it out there anyway...

3 batters per inning, 9 innings, 27 batters?

Hmmmm. If you're talking about the least amount of DIFFERENT batters, I guess it would be nine. After nine, the first batter starts the rotation again. Or, if the game gets forfeit before it even starts, both pitchers would pitch to zero batters? This is certainly some sort of trick question....

Without a shortened game, 25. With a rain shortened game, 13

Without a shortened game, 25. With a rain shortened game, 13There actually was a game where a pitcher faced 13 batters in a complete game. On July 30, 1971 Dick Drago pitched a one hitter against the Orioles in a game that was called in the bottom of the 5th inning due to rain. The only baserunner for the Orioles was Frank Robinson who hit a home run in the first inning as the Orioles beat the Royals 1 to 0.

Here's the Box Score (http://www.retrosheet.org/boxesetc/1971/B07300BAL1971.htm)

the question includes that there are no rainouts, no post-ponements, just a "normal game"

the question includes that there are no rainouts, no post-ponements, just a "normal game"Then the correct answer is 25 as was pointed out by Brooklyn. The home team wins the game 1 to 0 with the only baserunner being a home run. There's no need for them to bat in the 9th so 24 outs plus 1 baserunner = 25 batters.

**NOTE that the original question did not say "Winning" pitcher, right?!

ya the answer was 25 because both pitchers could be having a perfect game going into the bottom of the ninth inning (24 batters faced) and give up a game winning walk off homerun to the first batter in the ninth

congrats to the ppl who got it

Unless it's in the 9th, it doesn't HAVE to be a home run.

well i guess the run can be scored in any inning but its gota be a homerun otherwise the pitcher will face at least 26 batters

why does it have to be a homerun? He jsut has to score with no one left on base. Single, stolen base, sacrifice bunt, sacrifice fly. -or- triple, steals home. -or- walk, wild pitch, wild pitch, wild pitch. You get the idea

the idea is to fast the least amount of batters as possible

if u have 3 walks in a row than that means u faced 3 extra batters

He could have up to 8 walks+hits (1 per inning) and still face the minimum due to double plays.

Actually even more when you consider caught stealings.
