I've heard that you have to throw 90 MPH. Is this true? I know Jeter and Reyes both can throw in the mid 90s. How can I gain more velocity on my throws from short?

Who told you that? Currently, do you make the outs on your opportunities? I don't think Jeter throws 90 from short.. Reyes, the Mets coaches taught him that he doesn't have to throw full throttle to complete plays..
The only shortstop that threw 95 to first was Shawn Dunston...
Eckstein can't break a plane of glass, but he completes his opportunities..
You should continue to build your arm strength to make you a better player.. Long toss, strengthen your legs, shoulders, hands, forearms, triceps and back..

Joe Morgan doesn't know what he's talking about, tisting.
Furcal is a guy who seems to throw 100% all the time.

Furcal definitely hits the 90 mph range. His arm is the strongest in the infield, most likely.

HA Eck has one of the weakest arms in the game but he gets all his body into his throws. Most infield coachs teach short stops to throw like him

D1 infield prospects are expected to throw 85. Wouldn't that lead you to believe MLB'er are in the 90's?
Sure it helps to have a plus arm . The Florida Gators have a framed picture of a player in their dugout with the inscription " Portrait of a Champion." Guess who? Reyes didn't run 9.5 mph to first last week & was benched. Don't get too caught up in numbers. Just look for steady improvement in all aspects of your game.

I have observed a few pro tryout camps put on by various teams or by the MLB Scouting folks, and I have always heard those guys say that the average Major League shortstop throws 85 mph across the diamond.
